Also, a reminder that ORIENTATION NIGHT is on Wednesday, September 7th at 7 pm for the 4 year-old program and 8 pm for the 3 year-old program.  The session will be held in the downstairs gym of the Silver Springs Community Centre (same location as the Preschool) We strongly encourage all parents to attend as we will be reviewing important program policies, followed by an informal classroom tour and Q&A session with the teachers & members of the Parent Advisory Committee.
September is just around the corner, so it's time for the SILVER SPRINGS PRESCHOOL NEWSLETTER to officially hit your inbox! We send the newsletter out 6 times a year, and occasionally an additional few when special events or fundraising initiatives are happening. It's one of the many ways we like to stay in touch with you and in turn we hope it makes you feel a little more connected to your child's school. If you would like to read past newsletters, they can be found on our website or by clicking here NEWSLETTERS

We are looking forward to a great school year and the opportunity to get to know each of you. We hope preschool will be a happy and exciting experience in your child’s life. Silver Springs Preschool aims to provide an environment in which children can develop positive social skills with both children and adults. We strive to develop the use of communication skills, creativity, physical coordination and FUN! Throughout the year we will familiarize your children with the rules, routines and opportunities that they will encounter later in their educational journey.

Please feel free to chat with us before or after class about any concerns or questions you may have.

School Speech-Language Screening

We are pleased to offer screenings of speech and language skills for preschool children. This information is useful in order to develop the best program for your child.
A registered Speech-Language Pathologist will conduct these screenings at the school.
Participation is voluntary but you must provide a consent. There is no charge for this service. If you have concerns about your child's speech, please speak with you child's teacher ASAP as screenings take place in early September.

4 Yr Olds - Oct 5th

Hints for a great photo

Practice a nice smile at home ... not too big and not too small.

Long hair is best styled so that it is out of your child's face, and especially out of their eyes.

Are you wondering what the goals and objectives of the 3 year old program are?
For September we will be focusing on the theme of the Five Senses. We start with familiar, interesting topics so that children become comfortable in the preschool environment. We will focus on our social skills such as sharing, turn taking and communicating. We hope the students will make friends with peers and develop trust in their teachers. We provide many opportunities for children to develop their fine motor skills (holding pencils and cutting with scissors) and gross motor skills (in movement activities). Other goals include listening skills during circle time and learning to follow classroom rules and routines. We hope they will have fun while gaining self-confidence and flexibility.

And what are the 4 year olds going to be up to?
With the 4 year olds we will be beginning the year off with an "All About Me" theme where we will be doing some fun activities in an effort to get to know one another better and get settled in our classes.  We will be having our first baking day on Monday September 26th where the children will be making some cookies.  Our very first field trip for the year will be on Friday, September 30th where the children will be doing a Fall Walk in Bowmont Park and/or the Birthplace Forest, right here in Silver Springs. There will be more information regarding this event closer to the date.

  1. Please provide a labeled backpack for your child to bring to school each day.
  2. Label all your children's clothing & snack bag.
  3. Dress your children in play clothing & seasonable outdoor wear.
  4. Your child must wear indoor shoes at all times, no slippers please.
  5. Please park in the designated parking areas. No drop offs in the NO PARKING ZONE.
  6. Please pick up your child promptly at dismissal to avoid tears.
  7. We do not allow your child to bring toys or other items from home, except on their "Sharing Day" It is difficult to keep track of these items and we want to avoid the tears associated with a lost or broken toy.
  8. Don't forget to collect your children's art work off the floor outside the classroom at the end of each day.
  9. Children cannot be dropped off with a teacher prior to class time as teachers are setting up equipment and preparing for the days events. Please arrive 5 minutes before class time.
  10. 3 year olds - please leave an extra set of clothes in your child's backpack at all times (pant's, shirts, underwear) This will help us if your child gets wet at the water table or has an accident.
