Reminder - Fundraiser Orders (Epicure, Purdy's Chocolates, Gift Cards & Poinsettias) need to be picked up between 3-7pm on FRIDAY December 9th at the Community Centre. THANK YOU!!
  1. BIRTHDAY TREATS - we love the idea of the birthday boy/girl being able to bring in a special treat to share with his/her classmates. We would like you to keep in mind that the item should be small and/or bite size, nut free and can be a treat or a healthy snack. An alternative could always be a small non-treat item as well.
  2. Please provide a labeled backpack for your child to bring to school each day.
  3. Label all your children's clothing as well as their snack bag.
  4. Dress your children in play clothing & seasonable outdoor wear.
  5. Your child must wear indoor shoes at all times, no slippers please.
  6. Please park in the designated parking areas. No drop offs in the NO PARKING ZONE.
  7. Please pick up your child promptly at dismissal to avoid tears.
  8. We do not allow your child to bring toys or other items from home, except on their "Sharing Day" It is difficult to keep track of these items and we want to avoid the tears associated with a lost or broken toy.
  9. Don't forget to collect your children's artwork off the floor outside the classroom at the end of each day.
  10. Children cannot be dropped off with a teacher prior to class time as teachers are setting up equipment and preparing for the days events. Please arrive 5 minutes before class time.
  11. 3 year olds - please leave an extra set of clothes in your child's backpack at all times (pant's, shirts, underwear) This will help us if your child gets wet at the water table or has an accident.

December already & January is coming!!
Our theme is all about Christmas for the month of December. We will be making lots of wonderful Christmas things like a gift for parents to treasure,  a Christmas card and a tree decoration. On our last day (December 15th) we will be doing a small Christmas Concert. The concert will be held in the upstairs gym from 10:30am for the morning class and 2:30pm for the afternoon class. The children will be performing a few songs and poems and this will be followed by a very special visitor! We will be asking families to sign up to bring in some special baked treats, make punch and help to set up and take down chairs.

January for the 3's will be investigating various types of transportation, like cars, airplanes, boats and buses. We will also be looking at construction vehicles as well as some emergency vehicles. We will be focusing on the "Magic C"  and we will be doing a lot of activities to help us learn our letters and numbers.
The 3's will also be starting "Sharing" in January. A sharing bag will be sent home with one child in turn and they must put one thing in the bag to share with the rest of the class on the next session (like a show in tell). The room parent will be setting up a sharing schedule so that all the children will get their turn. In January, Sue Silverman (Miss Tune ah) will be coming into school to do weekly music classes for the rest of the academic year.

Remember you can check the website for your child's monthly calendar, found here

Can you believe it?  We are nearing the most wonderful time of year.  December is here.  It is sure to be another busy month as we enjoy some of Jan Brett’s wonderful stories and explore Christmas and the joy of giving.  The children will be making some festive crafts to help celebrate the holiday season. Starting last month, Sue Silverman (Miss Tune ah) has been coming into the school to do weekly music classes and will continue to, for the rest of the academic year.
Our Christmas concert will be held on our last day of preschool before the holidays on Friday, December 16th. The concert will be held in the upstairs gymnasium at 10:30am for the morning classes and 2:30pm for the afternoon classes.  There will be a wonderful presentation put on by the children, followed by a very special visitor! We will be asking families to participate by providing baking, punch or setting up and taking down chairs.  A sign-up sheet will be outside the classroom doors closer to the date of the performance.  We encourage all families to come and be part of our joyous and festive celebration.
As we head back to school in January after our restful and fun holiday with family and friends the children will be exploring some of The Five Little Monkeys stories. We will realize they don't just jump on the bed!

January we will be exploring the world of Dinosaurs. This is always a favourite theme and one in which we teachers often learn a lot from the children!
We will also be hosting a Special Persons Night to showcase our learning about Dinosaurs. Each child will be given the opportunity to bring in ONE special person to class in the evening to help with a very special dinosaur craft. This is a great chance to visit the classroom and have lots of fun. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any siblings or more than one special person, due to the limited space in the classrooms. On your child's Special Person Night there will be no school in the morning or afternoon. Your child will not need to bring a snack as we will be making some special treats for our guests. Watch out for the invitation coming home on January 4th.

January 18th - Mrs. Walker AM Class
January 23rd - Mrs. Walker PM Class
January 25th  - Mrs. O’Neill AM Class
January 30th - Mrs. O’Neill PM Class

On the 27th we have a Winter Fun Day scheduled (weather permitting). If the weather is not cooperative that day we will just have a regular class. The Winter Fun day is a fun filled session of outside winter activities like sledding, ice skating, making snow angels and writing in the snow . You are welcome to bring a sled and skates for your child if they have them. Please ensure all items, including sleds, skates, helmets, hats, mitts etc are clearly labeled. We are scheduled to be outside for the duration of the time. We will have the use of the gymnasium as an area to warm up. We will have a sign-up sheet outside the classrooms a few days before the Winter Fun Day for parents to sign up to bring extra goodies/ snacks. We will be serving hot chocolate and treats at about 10:30am for the morning classes and at about 2:30pm for the afternoon classes. All parents must stay with their child that day but you can decide your arrival and departure times. Please just let us know when you are leaving. Siblings are welcome to attend.

Goodbye 2016 and Hello 2017!
From all of us at Silver Springs Preschool

Play dough Recipe
Here is a great recipe for play dough. Great for those cold winter days inside!
4 ½ cups water
6 tbsp. oil
2 cups salt
4 cups flour
8 tsp. cream of tartar
 Food coloring
*add some sparkle for a special look
Add food coloring to the water.  Mix all ingredients in a large saucepan until smooth on medium heat.  Continue to cook and stir on low heat until it forms a ball.  Knead for 5 minutes on the counter.  Let cool and then store in a large Ziploc bag or ice cream bucket.

Classroom Volunteers

Silver Springs Preschool requires all parents and caregivers interested in volunteering in the classroom to undergo a Police Information Check (Consent to Search and Disclosure of Personal Information). These security clearances are good for 2 years, so if you have filled one out for our school within that time frame, you do not need to fill out another. There is no charge to the parent for this check.

Interested parents or caregivers can pick up a security clearance consent form at the Silver Springs Community Center or download it above. For more detailed information on how to fill this form out please see the Silver Springs Preschool Policy for Police Security Clearances

The Silver Springs Preschool Parent Advisory Committee is here to listen. Feel free to express your concerns to your room parent (who will then bring it forward to the board) You are more than welcome to CONTACT US through the website or email our Chair directly, Lisa O'Sullivan We are here to listen and welcome any feedback, suggestions, comments ... good or bad. Feel free to share your experiences with us, remember we also have children in the program and we really do want what is best for all!

We encourage our families to join our email list to have newsletters sent home electronically.
This allows you to save newsletters for future reference and most importantly allows us to save paper.
