Letter From the Principal

Dear Parents,

We are heading into the final week of the school year!

We have a lot to celebrate this week. Your children have worked hard, and we want to recognize their achievements and celebrate them.

Monday evening is our graduation ceremony.  Eighth grade parents, congratulations! If you have not registered yet, please do so. Please refer to the email that was sent through Jupiter for all of the details.

Awards Assemblies

On Wednesday morning, we will host three grade-wide Awards Assemblies and a High Honor Roll Assembly. While these are for students, we cannot stop you from looking over your child’s shoulder. The High Honor Roll Assembly will take place at 9AM on Wednesday. It is only for students who have earned High Honors every marking period. Invitations will be sent to those families by Monday morning.

Summer Assignments

Summer Assignments will be posted on  by July 2. These assignments have been designed to keep your children reading, to give them a chance to introduce themselves to their classmates and teachers, and to keep their math skills sharp. They are not a summer learning plan. If you want additional structure for your children, there are many online resources to do this. We hope you will find the right balance in your home to make summer different than the school year.

Talent Show

The Student Talent Show will take place on Wednesday evening. A link will be sent to parents and students.

Faculty Game Night

The various academic departments will face off in a Faculty Feud and a Newlywed Game on Thursday evening. The faculty has been incredible over these months, join in supporting them and watching the fun.

DOE Return to School 2020 Survey

The DOE is working on plans for re-opening school buildings in the 2020-21 school year and exploring various options based on available guidance from public health experts.  A short, anonymous survey (~7 mins.) has been created to capture feedback from students and families about what are the most important considerations for their return to school in the fall.  Parents can complete the Return to 2020 Survey here and students can complete the survey here

Spring Appeal Update

Thank you to all our generous Spring Appeal donors! Over 50 families contributed nearly $25,000 over the past three weeks, ensuring that we exceeded this year’s annual appeal goal of $200,000. We’re a little behind in our “Thank Yous” but please know that your generosity is very much appreciated! If you would like to make a contribution before the end of the school year, there is still one more week to go. :)

Practice Makes Perfect Free Summer Program
To address the impact of COVID19 and mitigate the summer learning loss, Practice Makes Perfect (PMP) in partnership with the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation and The Heckscher Foundation for Children through a $1.4 million dollar grant have created a free virtual summer academic program for up to 5,000 NYC public school students who are completing Grades 3 – 8. The program is open to students attending both district and charter schools.

2020 Census
As we grapple with COVID-19, completing the 2020 Census is even more important now than ever. The number of New Yorkers who are counted will determine how much funding we receive for our schools and public services over the next 10 years. City schools receive more than $781 million every year in Title I funding, based on census data. In addition, the census helps determine funding for early learn centers, in-school and afterschool youth programs, childcare programs, and other services that support our school communities. You can play an active role in ensuring an accurate count by urging staff and families to complete the census online at, or by calling 844-330-2020, and completing the brief survey, which is open until October 31.
