Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents:

Report Cards
Report cards will be distributed on Monday. We use a numerical grading system with students getting grades between 55 and 100. The conduct grades are E (excellent,) S (satisfactory,) N (needs improvement,) or U (unsatisfactory.) The sixth grade music, language and technology classes are pass/fail. So is the seventh grade health class. Pass/fail classes are not calculated in the average.

Please keep the report card, but sign and return the envelope. If you have concerns about your child’s progress in a particular class, please start by discussing your concerns with the teacher. If you have any problems contacting a teacher, please email Anne McIntosh Pejovich. She will be able to assist you.

Honor Rolls
Students who earn an overall average of between 90-94.9 earn a place on the Honor Roll, and students who earn an overall average of between 95-100 earn a place on the High Honor Roll. Students must have satisfactory conduct to be on the Honor Rolls. The Honor Rolls will be posted in school.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are on Tuesday. The online sign-up system is open now for additional appointments. If you are not able to get an appointment with a particular teacher with whom you need to meet, please email the teacher. The appointments from 5 to 5:25 PM are first-come-first sign-up. I suggest arriving before 5 PM if you want one of these slots. There is usually a line beginning as early as 4:30 PM. There will be a sign-up sheet outside of every teacher’s door for these slots. The email sent last week has more detailed information about the conferences. The administrators, guidance counselors and special support staff will all be at school on Tuesday should you want to talk with us.

Schoolkeeping Items
  • Eighth grade parents, please remember that only healthy snacks are permitted during fourth period.
  • Please label all sweatshirts, coats and outerwear. The lost and found fills up every week with items that have not been labeled. If your child has lost something, check the lost and found when you are in school on Tuesday.
  • Breakfast is available starting at 8AM each day and at 7:45 on Wednesdays. Students may also pick up a “Bag and Go” breakfast on their way to Early Academy.
  • Please do not text your child during the school day.
I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Elana Elster

Dismissal is at 11:30 on Tuesday November 17th.

Remember to Donate to the Annual Appeal!

Please make your contribution today. Every contribution, no matter how big or small will have a positive impact on our children’s education. We are suggesting a contribution of $1,000, but would like to see everyone give what they can. It is important that we receive your Annual Appeal contribution as soon as possible so that we can ensure that all of the PTA projects will be fully funded.

Act now in one of two ways:
1.  Write a check to “MS 54 PTA” and mail it to the school.
2.  Click on the “Donate to the Annual Fund” banner on the top of this email or CLICK HERE NOW.

ANY AMOUNT YOU CAN GIVE MAKES A DIFFERENCE.  Please remember that contributions to the PTA will be kept confidential, are completely voluntary, are tax deductible and meet matching gift programs for most companies.
