PTA MEETING ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6

Please come to the PTA meeting this Tuesday night at 7 PM to hear from Laura Zigmond, Senior Editor at InsideSchools. At InsideSchools, Laura focuses solely on high schools, and she visited more than 50 high schools last year. Come learn how to keep organized during the first few crazy months of 8th grade, discover schools other than the specialized high schools that are worth investigating, figure out if your child is a good fit for a particular school, and more. It should be an excellent talk for parents of 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

Election of the 6th Grade Representative will also take place at Tuesday's meeting. To date, we have one nominee, Katie Miller. Anyone else wishing to nominate herself or others may do so by emailing Joanna Omi by 5 PM Monday, October 5 or by so stating at the PTA meeting on the 6th. A description of the job function for the representative is included in the PTA Bylaws which can be found on the PTA website.

Please click here to review the minutes from the September meeting.

We hope to see you on Tuesday night!

AUCTION MEETING ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8

Please join us at a meeting Thursday, October 8 at 8:45 AM to discuss preparations for the Spring Auction, MS54's biggest annual fundraiser. Email Lisa Shatz if you have questions.

SAFETY PATROL --> NEW THIS YEAR

We are asking parents to volunteer a half hour one time during the school year to walk around the neighborhood at dismissal time. At the PTA meeting Tuesday we introduced this new initiative and already we have about 20 parents signed up.

If you are interested in signing up, please email Alix Botwin Krell.

PTA BOARD 6TH GRADE REP NOMINATIONS

Nominations are open for the 6th Grade Representative and we encourage all parents to consider nominating themselves or others for this role. PTA officers for the 2015-16 school year were elected at the June PTA meeting, with the exception of the 6th grade representative.

The 6th Grade Rep serves as the liaison between the 6th grade teachers and class parents and assists the school with communication and outreach for the class.

Election for that position will be held at the October PTA general meeting. Anyone else wishing to nominate themselves or others may do so by notifying Joanna Om of the election committee by 5 PM Monday, October 5 or at the PTA meeting on October 6. A description of the job function for the representative is included in the PTA Bylaws.

If you have questions about this blurb, please email Joanna Om.

BE A CLASS PARENT

Being a class parent is a great opportunity to work with teachers, staff, and other parents while at Booker T. If you have any questions about the role or responsibilities, please email Parent Coordinator Anne McIntosh Pejovich.
