Planned Construction on 108th St. Could Impact MS54

Attend the informational presentation by West Side Senior and Supportive Housing and HPD on preliminary plans for this development to learn more.

Land Use Committee Meeting
Wednesday, March 16, 7:00 PM
Location: Jewish Home Lifecare, 120 West 106th Street
(Between Amsterdam & Columbus Aves.)

The development site includes the Valley Lodge Transitional Shelter program and three city-owned garages. The existing Valley Lodge building and all three garages will be demolished to make way for two new residential buildings that will include a new Valley Lodge together with permanent supportive housing as well as affordable housing for families and older adults.

Both the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and the NYC Department of City Planning (DCP) wish to dispose of the city-owned garages to WSFSSH for the purpose of this development.

Boxtops Reminder

Please don't forget that MS54 participates in the Boxtops program and that the collection box is in the lobby of the school. We recently submitted Boxtops worth $354. Keep the Boxtops coming! It's free money for our school.

Sign the Petition to Improve Our Playground

If you have a child at Booker T Washington, you’ve seen them. You’ve stepped on them, swept them up and plucked them from socks fresh out of the dryer: tiny black pellets from the field adjacent to MS54 where our kids have recess and play before and after school. Now it’s time to do something about it. The PTA and SLT, in conjunction with MS54’s newly formed Wellness Council, are sponsoring a petition to the City Council for funds to replace this degraded turf with a new, eco-friendly material that is better for our kids and the environment.

But to make it happen we need your support — please click here to sign our petition! The more signatures we gather, the greater our chances of success. A new field will benefit not only our MS54 students but the many neighborhood residents and soccer and baseball leagues who use the field frequently.

Important Meeting for 7th Grade Parents

On Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 6:30 PM we would like to share with you information regarding high school choices and options, the high school application process, and other pertinent information which will help you and your children make the best decisions possible with regard to high school choice.

School Survey

Parent School Surveys - put your pens down - it's so easy to take the survey online!  Support your school - take the NYC School Survey!  If you choose the paper survey that came home with your child, just put it in the mail when you're done! Either way, you are supporting the staff at Booker T and the results of the survey will directly help your children. It is. True Win-win.

Free Microsoft Software

Parents and guardians of a student enrolled in a NYC public school are now able to download Microsoft software from https://studentoffice.net/, at no cost, on up to five of their family’s computers and five of their family’s tablets, smart phones, or other mobile devices.

Free products include:
  • Office 365 ProPlus on Windows: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Skype for Business, Access, InfoPath and Publisher installed on Windows
  • Office for Mac Professional 2016: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote
  • Office for iPad, iPhone, Android: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote
  • Cloud service
  • Office Online
To download, visit https://studentoffice.net/ and enter either of the following:

1. Student’s date of birth AND a parent phone number, or
2. Parent email

The information that you enter to claim the download must match the information on your Blue Card on file with the school. Therefore, it is necessary that ATS have the most up-to-date parent contact information in order for the verification and download process to be successful. If you have trouble claiming the download, you can visit a school’s main office to make any necessary changes to your contact information.

There is no deadline to claim the free software. Families may download the software as long as they have a child enrolled in a NYC public school.

As Office 365 is a Microsoft Cloud product, parents must create a Microsoft Cloud account in order to download the software. The studentoffice.net website contains not only information on how to create an account, download the software, but also answers to “Frequently Asked Questions.” For technical assistance families may contact Microsoft Customer Service at: 1 (800) 642-7676.
