A Monthly Report of Project Operations and Flathead Lake Levels-March 5, 2018
Se̓liš Ksanka Ql̓ispe̓ Hydroelectric Project Operation for Flathead Lake
February natural flows into Flathead lake were 160% of normal. The current lake elevation is 2884.9’. Current inflow is 11,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) and outflow is 12,500 cfs. March’s water supply forecast is currently 70% of normal. Montana SNOTEL Current Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) % of Normal is 141%. The dam’s discharge is currently limited by the natural channel restriction between the lake and the dam. EKI will operated this way most likely through April. As flood risk probability diminishes, EKI will start refilling the lake with an end of May target elevation of at or around 2890 feet. Annual operations have been routine thus far and the lake will be full in June for recreation.
The following is a table comparing EKI’s current outlook for outflow in cubic feet per second(cfs) and elevation(ft.) Percentile data range (1999-2016).
