A Monthly Report of Project Operations and Flathead Lake Levels-May 3, 2017
Se̓liš Ksanka Ql̓ispe̓ Hydroelectric Project Operation for Flathead Lake
April was another very wet month in the Flathead Basin. The natural flows into the lake were 151% of normal. The current Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) for the Flathead is 134% of normal and increased significantly in April into the first week of May. As of May 3, the lake elevation is 2888.23 feet and slowly filling. Current inflow is 25,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) and outflow is approximately 25,900 cfs. The project is being operated under channel restriction. By the end of May, the lake will be in the 2891foot range, about 2 feet from full. Due the above average amount of water in the forecast, the plan is to stay as low as possible through May and June and hit full by the fourth of July for summer recreation.
The following is a table comparing EKI’s current outlook for outflow in cubic feet per second (cfs) compared to cumulative historical data from 1999-2015.
