New Staff Joins The Law Project We are thrilled to announce that Allegra Cira Fischer has joined The Law Project (TLP) as our newest Staff Attorney. Allegra will be working with coalitions of non-profit organizations in negotiations with developers to secure benefits for surrounding communities, including commitments to build affordable housing, provide job training and pay livable wages, among other investments important to Chicago neighborhoods and their residents. Allegra believes that positive, sustainable social change must be community-driven, and she is excited to transition into a community lawyering practice focused on transactional legal assistance to non-profits. This is a relatively new project for TLP, and Allegra looks forward to helping to shape its scope and trajectory.
Prior to joining The Law Project, Allegra’s legal advocacy focused on homeowners in foreclosure at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS) and families in the child welfare system at the Family Defense Center. At CVLS, Allegra represented homeowners in court as well as in over 200 mediation sessions through the Cook County Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program. She is also a certified mediator through the Center for Conflict Resolution and has focused her legal and prior professional efforts on social justice for over fifteen years. Welcome to the team, Allegra!

Get On Board: TLP's Annual Bus Tour
When: Wednesday June 22, from 9:30am-12:30pm Where: Our start and end point will be at the offices of The Law Project (100 N. LaSalle, Suite 600) Tickets: bit.ly/1UFR5lT
In one morning, we will visit three community organizations in Rogers Park and Edgewater to learn how they operate, who they help, and what The Law Project has done for them. Our sites this year include the Howard Area Community Center (HACC), the Rogers Park Business Alliance (RPBA), its community garden, and the Fearless Food Kitchen at the Peterson Garden Project.
This is a great opportunity for volunteer attorneys, summer associates, and funders alike to see how our legal work helps community-based organizations at a grassroots level. Writing bylaws is one thing, but seeing just how an organization's mission plays out in its community really brings the work we do to life.
