Spheres of Influence

First, join us next week for a special black history month offering, Spheres of influence. In this workshop, participants will receive a brief historic overview of racism in America that will center participants in racial justice work, with a focus on self and how to be an ally in your programs and in everyday life.

Microaggressions in Your Program  
Date: Thursday, March 18th 10:00 am – 11:30
Then, later in March, join us for Microaggressions in Your Program. In this workshop, we’ll explore the words and actions that, intentionally or unintentionally, create a negative or hostile space for members of a group, and learn how to be more cognizant of these instances to create more inclusive spaces for all.

Barbara Johnson is the Senior Director of Race and Gender Equity at the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh. Before working at the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, Susquehanna University, one of the top five employers of Snyder County, hired Barbara to lead their new Office of Workforce Diversity and Inclusion as an integral member of their Human Resources Department. There, Barbara developed diverse community partnerships and established a professional development initiative for university employees. Before Susquehanna, Barbara worked at Carlow University where she started their first Office of Multicultural Programs, which under her leadership eventually grew into their Office of Diversity and Inclusion.


The Care Mobile Is On The Way 

 

UPMC Children’s Hospital Care Mobile is taking site requests for visits. The Care Mobile provides health services to children in your community. Children, up to age 26, can be seen on the Care Mobile and all services provided are at no costs to families.
 
Services provided by the Care Mobile include:

  • Vaccinations
  • Physicals
  • Well and sick child visits
  • Adolescent medicine
  • Referral to specialty care

Allegheny Land Trust Professional Development Opportunity

Sessions are $5 each, and Act 48 and PQAS hours are available for them all. *There will be an additional $5 fee for Act 48 hours.

Learning and Leadership Grants: Grants available for educational support staff who work in school buildings. Grant range $2,000 to $5,000. Deadlines: December 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021.
Teaching Tolerance: Grants that educate youth to thrive in a diverse democracy. Deadline: Rolling
W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Racial Equity 2030. A Call for Bold Solutions to Drive an Equitable Future. $90 million to build and scale ideas for closing the racial equity gap so all children, families and communities can be more secure in their trust of the systems and institutions that serve them. Deadline: February 25, 2021.
Book Bank: New and donated books and resources. Deadline: Rolling. 
Pittsburgh Foundation: is establishing an emergency action fund for nonprofits. More info to come as they release details. Deadline: TBD
Emergency Fund for Artists: potential $500 support from GPAC for artists at a loss of income due to coronavirus. More emergency arts funding resources here. Deadline: Rolling
Peace First: $250 grants to youth 13-25 for projects developed to address community response to COIVD-19. Deadline: Rolling
Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Artist and Administration Support Small Grants: $250 grants. Deadline: Ongoing 
Youth-Led COVID-19 Human Services Initiative Grants: $2,500-$10,000 grants. Deadline: Ongoing 
Trans Community Support During COVID Crisis Grants: Up to $10,000 grants. Deadline: Ongoing

Annual SciTech Spring & Summer Opportunities Fair


 
This year, the Annual SciTech Spring & Summer Opportunities Fair will be in-person. SciTech is planning to share any upcoming opportunities that you have to offer with students at SciTech in Oakland!
 
The school going to compile all the opportunities available for our students in grades 6-12 and then share those with our students and families. Each organization can provide information using the form below and SciTech will distribute it in one comprehensive document via our SciTech email list and their student advisory period.
