Shaping Summertime Experiences: Aligning Practice to Recommendations

Summertime provides a unique opportunity for community partners, schools, families, and young people to work together to provide programs and services that promote the social, emotional, and cognitive development of youth.
During this webinar, we will focus on a 2019 report released by The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine titled Shaping Summertime Experiences: Opportunities to Promote Healthy Development and Well-Being for Children and Youth. You will hear from members of the committee who produced the report about their practices that align to the recommendations in the report. These presenters will also provide insight on what actions you can take even as we consider the uncertainty of what lies ahead in this summer.

Summer Learning Planning for Afterschool Providers During the Pandemic 

Wednesday, April 29, 2020 | Virtual 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. ET

PSAYDN invites Pennsylvania afterschool and summer learning professionals to participate in a virtual forum to discuss challenges, planning, and adaptation needed for summer programming in light of emerging issues from COVID-19.  
This forum includes conversation, questions, best practices with an emphasis on necessary catch-up learning, determining whether programs need to be virtual and how to structure virtual programs, regulatory/guidance updates, and how to ensure quality and quantity of staff in light of current layoffs

Looking for a remote learning resource guide that has everything you need in one place? Check out this great spreadsheet from Allegheny Intermediate Unit complete with helpful tips, tools, and resources for transitioning to virtual programming.

Navigating the Tabs: 

1. Remote Learning: A step-by-step guide to support you in transitioning to virtual instruction, containing both resources to support you in learning
on your own as well as virtual PD to learn alongside others 
2 Weekly Schedule: Contains all of the virtual trainings listed in tab 1, but in a daily format.
3. Asynchronous Learning: Resources to support you in learning on your own. Resources are grouped into 5 foundational concepts, each with two skills.
4. Additional Resources: A vetted list of high-quality resources on distance, virtual, and remote learning
5. Q&A: A list of questions that we have received, along with answers

Emergency Fund for Artists: potential $500 support from GPAC for artists at a loss of income due to coronavirus. More emergency arts funding resources here. Deadline: Rolling
Governor's STEM: $500 grants to students grades 9-12 competing in STEM. Deadline: May 7-8th
Peace First: $250 grants to youth 13-25 for projects developed to address community response to COIVD-19. Deadline: Rolling

Survey: COVID-19's Impact on Youth Workers 
How is the COVID-19 pandemic impacting youth workers? If you are an adult in all levels and in all departments who works in a youth serving organization please participate in a research study being conducted by APOST and the University of Pittsburgh. Results from the study will assist this partnership with coordinating, creating, and compiling professional development experiences and resources during this time of crisis and next steps following the COVID-19 pandemic.
