Vancouver Ecosocialist Group (VESG)

Public forums in Vancouver, Victoria and Gabriola Island Corporations are relentlessly cooking the climate, wiping out life on earth, and driving us off the cliff to ecological collapse. Can this be stopped? Can our capitalist economic system be made to respect humans and the environment? Is there any better alternative to capitalism? Richard Smith is a University lecturer, member of the 'System Change Not Climate Change' network in New York City, author of many articles including 'Capitalism and the destruction of life on Earth: Six theses to save the humans'. His forthcoming book is 'To save the humans, turn the world upside down'...more.
Fossil fuel drive spurs political radicalization in Canada
, Roger Annis, VESG member.
"The anti-environment offensive by Canada’s fossil fuel industry and its flacks in government is radically shifting the political landscape of the country. Each day, it seems, brings some new announcement and outrage being committed against Earth and the humans. More pipelines to be built, and more leaks and cover-ups
of existing oil and tar sands facilities that poison the land and water. More threats
of oil train disasters as the rail industry and governments claim they can make it safe. More Arctic sea ice loss
and the disastrous consequences that will certainly result"...more

Vancouver Ecosocialist affiliates with North American "System change not climate change (SCNCC)" network
The Vancouver Ecosocialist Group recently voted to affiliate with a burgeoning North America network of organizations who share the belief that solutions to the capitalist ecological crisis will be found in ecology and socialism. Read here the summary report from a New York SCNCC retreat
to become acquainted with the rationale for this new network. We look forward to connecting with other groups in Vancouver, BC and across Canada the U.S. who are also excited by the prospects of uniting to fight climate change and all forms of capitalist destruction.
Towards a European Eco-Socialist action network
Andrew Burgin, Left Unity. "The increasing ecological crisis and impending environmental catastrophe that we all face, is leading more on the left to recognise that we have to be both red and green in our politics – we have to be ecosocialist. One without the other is not going to work. That is the strong message from the French left party, Parti de Gauche, which has called for the founding of a European network, opposing the environmental degradation caused by capitalism’s relentless drive for profit"...more
