‘Tis the month before the holiday and the Shreveport Regionl Arts Council (SRAC) offers the chance of a lifetime to give the Gift of ART...the Dalmatian!   You can put a Dot on the Dalmatian and leave a Legacy for family, friends and your Pets!  Following in the tradition of "101 Dalmations," SRAC is offering a sponsored light up "dot" for $101 each!
ART is a 20 foot tall Dalmatian, designed by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg of Moonbot Studios as a gift to SRAC, reflecting on the historic role of the iconic Dalmatian renowned for protecting Fire Fighters. ART is fabricated of solid white fiberglass in Denver by the Public Art firm, JunoWorks, with funding from the Educational Foundation of America.   ART will stand guard over the new Central ARTSTATION, protecting and welcoming Artists, Arts Organization, and Audiences.  Art the Dalmatian, comes home to Central ARTSTATION in early 2014 to join his newSRAC  family.
Each dot will light up when the donor activates the button on the Recognition Plaque adjacent to the sculptural Dalmatian.  Sandi Kallenberg, SRAC Chairman, observes, "ART the Dalmatian is coming to town, purchase a dot and spread the joy around!"
Each illuminated dot on Art the Dalmatian demonstrates support for the Arts in northwest Louisiana.  The "Give a Dot" campaign benefits SRAC's many programs and services aimed towards growing Arts and Culture throughout the 10 parishes of Northwest Louisiana.

"Give a Dot" is a way to create a lasting legacy for kith and kin, a memorial for a beloved, or a tribute to a friend, co-worker, and all others special to you. Each donation is recognized on a wall plaque to be installed near Art; "dot donors" will press a button to light up the gifted dot.  "Dot" recipients will receive a gift card - the perfect Stocking Stuffer" -  acknowledging the donor of the Dot.  All "Dot" donors and recipients will be invited to welcome ART to his home at the Central ARTSTATION when he arrives early in 2014.

After an arsonist set a fire that destroyed the SRAC offices in Princess Park in 2009, the City of Shreveport designated the historic Central Fire Station as SRAC's new headquarters. Mayor Cedric B. Glover charged SRAC with the mission to revitalize and reinvigorate downtown Shreveport’s nine-block arts district, Shreveport Common. SRAC's reach also extends throughout the region with arts education from kindergarten to adults, adult entrepreneurship training programs, an Arts Resource Center, performance and meeting space for artists and arts organization, and much more! Soon Art will become the protector of the arts while welcoming visitors to the exhibitions and presentations at Central ARTSTATION.

On February 22, 2013, Sally and Dick Grieder and their nine grandchildren attended the Grand Opening of Central ARTSTATION. The Grieders created a family legacy that day, purchasing a dot in each grandchild’s name. “We were so excited about the revitalization of downtown and what the Shreveport Regional Arts Council is doing,” Sally said, “We decided to take our grandchildren with us so that they would have the memory of that experience and dots on ART. We wanted to buy all our grandchildren dots to give them a special memory and to give something back to SRAC so everyone can continue to enjoy the Arts in downtown.”
