JANUARY 30 - JOINT WORKSHOP 5:30 - 8:30
San Marcos Activity Center Room #3
If you can't attend in person the event will be recorded and available on the
City's Website Here.
The Code SMTX process has moved into the approval stage of the project. A Public Draft Code was released on May 27, 2016 and went through a six month review period followed by the production of a Revised Draft Code which was released on January 6, 2017. This Revised Draft Code represents two and a half years of public input, extensive analysis, and most recently response to over 1000 comments received from residents via our online commenting system, Open Comment, as well as by email, open house events, surveys, etc. The approval stage of the project will begin with two Joint City Council and Planning Commission Workshops where 10 major topics representing the most important issues for San Marcos will be discussed.
The first workshop will focus primarily on Existing Neighborhoods. We will be discussing what we heard during the public outreach period, what Comprehensive Plan goals and best practices need to be considered, and finally the strategies proposed to meet the goals and vision of the City's recently adopted Comprehensive Plan. This meeting will include an introductory presentation focused on what would change in existing neighborhoods as a result of the adoption of Code SMTX.
In addition to the overview, the workshop will included a facilitated discussion on five of the topics that received the most attention during the review of the Public Draft Code. Click the links here to see the backup material associated with each major topic.
The February 8 workshop will primarily focus on the new parkland and environmental standards being proposed with Code SMTX. Specific topics to be discussed include:
Parkland Dedication
New Drainage Requirements
New Water Quality Requirements
Parking
Corridor Overlay Districts
What's Next for CodeSMTX
In the months ahead, the community will have the opportunity to continue to review and respond to the revised draft during a series of public meetings or by sending written comments to Planning_Info@sanmarcostx.gov A final draft will then be scheduled to go to policy makers for consideration and adoption in March and April of 2017.
