The safety and well-being of every child at P.S. 20 remains our highest priority. To this end, we are sending you this notice to inform you about an incident that occurred.
On Monday, while walking home from school on Myrtle Avenue near Fort Greene Park, a student was confronted by a stranger in a black jeep who asked her to accompany him. Fortunately, the student ran away and was unharmed. NYPD was notified and is investigating.
In order to keep our students safe, we urge you to discuss with your children, the following safety guidelines regarding traveling to and from school. Please encourage your child to travel in a group whenever possible and be aware of his or her surroundings when riding the bus or train and walking to and from the school building. Students should always walk on sidewalks and not walk close to the curb. In addition, children should not use a short cut through a vacant lot or any other unpopulated area or take items from or approach adults in vehicles. If your child encounters a situation in which your child is fearful about his or her safety, your child should immediately run in the opposite direction and yell for help to alert bystanders.
Thank you for your cooperation and please do not hesitate to contact Parent Coordinator Karen Colon at (718) 834-6744 if you have any questions or concerns.
