Major Drawback Updates Seem Likely as Legislation, ACE Move Forward

The progress of customs legislation and the transition to the Automated Commercial Environment has drawback processes poised for some major updates, some over a decade in the making.

Mexico Factory Exports,
Consumer Imports Climb


Mexican factory-made exports rose, signaling that stronger U.S. demand could support more robust growth in Latin America’s No. 2 economy.

Manufactured exports rose 2.23 percent. Auto exports rose 2.76 percent, while non-auto exports climbed 1.95 percent.

FDA Releases Detailed Plans for ‘VQIP’ Food Importer Trusted Trader Program

The issued a draft guidance (here) detailing its plans for the Voluntary Qualified Importer Program, a trusted trader program for food importers that will provide benefits including fewer examinations and expedited laboratory analysis.  
The agency is seeking comments on its draft plan for VQIP by Aug. 19, it said in a Federal Register notice (here).

The Netherlands has been reinstated to export pasteurized egg products to the United States this was announced by the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service 

Workers Begin Filling Panama Canal’s Newly Expanded Locks

A crowd of construction workers applauded the first gush of water from an artificial lake into some of the giant locks that are a key part of the canal’s multibillion-dollar expansion.
