The Bible contains some of the earliest documented public health policies. In the five books of Moses, also known as the Torah and the Pentateuch, you'll find many God-given directives for disease prevention with nutrition and sanitation, and treatment including quarantines and even mask-wearing (Leviticus 13:45)! Though it took thousands of years for medical science to explain and confirm these practices, we shouldn't be surprised that the Designer of these bodies knew how to best protect and care for them. The Isrealites "unclean" conditions and COVID-19 share an interesting parallel noted by professor and author Tamar Kamionkowski...
In part 1, we focussed on the benefits of staying the course in uncertain and challenging times. Part 2 addresses the difference between affliction and abuse and when retreat is the best move for resilience.
Health & Safety Announcement:
A new health order for the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions has been posted and until November 23 we are to reduce social interactions and non-essential travel. While worship gatherings are permitted, we will respect the directive to limit non-essential travel.
OAC's Board is in agreement to change the in-person worship service planned for November 21 to online only. We have several health professionals in our faith community who bear the burden of increasing cases. Let's show them respect as we take every precaution to reduce the spread of this disease. We urge you to join us in prioritizing public health and safety by complying with these restrictions.
SAVE THE DATE
A special business meeting will be held online over Zoom November 21 4:30-5:30 pm to share updates and gather your input on future planning. Connection instructions will be emailed and snail-mailed to members and donors. You can also sign up below for access.

Several shelters and charities are requesting warm coats and blankets for their clients as the chilly weather sets in. Please donate to your local neighbourhood agency or bring these items to the bin by the church entrance anytime.
We are delighted to share that OAC volunteer and Canadian veteran Otto Castillo has his story of overcoming PTSD featured in both the Canadian Messenger magazine and It Is Written telecast.
It will air on CTV Tomorrow Nov 14 at 11 am and you can read the article online. We will be rebroadcasting a portion of his interview next Sabbath on Nov 21.
