Quist Launches #QuistoryMatters Campaign
The mobile app that teaches LGBTQ history is promoting the field of LGBTQ history for October, LGBT History Month in the U.S.
#QuistoryMatters is a social media campaign to discuss the reasons why it is important to teach and learn queer history, or "quistory." According to GLSEN's 2011 National School Climate Survey, only 16.8% of LGBT students are taught positive representations of LGBT people, history, or events in school. Quist hopes to spark a national conversation on why it is important we increase that number, while also raising awareness of ways to learn LGBT history outside of school.
Quist encourages everyone to post their reason why #quistorymatters on social media using the hashtag. Quist also has produced a collection of shareable images of to be released throughout the week at Quist's Facebook page. They are all available to view in this Tumblr post. A few examples can be found below.
Sarah Prager, the app's founder, explains her reasons for creating Quist in this 5-minute talk from September 18, 2014.
