You weren't meant to have a boss

Are zoo animals and wild animals the same species?

“I suspect that working for oneself feels better to humans in much the same way that living in the wild must feel better to a wide-ranging predator like a lion. Life in a zoo is easier, but it isn't the life they were designed for.” [1]

Freedom and independence come at the price of complete responsibility for your actions, both positive and negative.

“Comedian Kevin Hart, for example, was going to host the Oscars this year until old tweets surfaced showing that he made homophobic jokes. James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, was fired from making the movie’s third installment because of old tweets where he joked about pedophilia. Pretty much everything President Donald Trump says is contradicted by one or more of his old tweets.” - [2]

The first two lost their jobs (for a single tweet), the third one became the president of the United States (with many controversial tweets).

The first two had a boss that can fire them, the third one didn’t.

“If you're not allowed to implement new ideas, you stop having them. And vice versa: when you can do whatever you want, you have more ideas about what to do.” [3]

Freedom to implement comes at the absence of asking for permission.

“Founders and early employees of startups, though a tiny minority of the population, they're the ones living as humans are meant to. In an artificial world, only extremists live naturally.” - [4]

The only way to guarantee an optimal workplace is to create it.

Is it hard to build a successful venture? Definitely yes.

Is it worth it? 1000%.
