The Sabre Sailing Association of WA completed a very successful State Series last weekend after the first heats were held at MYC last November. MYC were well represented with six boats racing last Saturday. The Sabre Association's report follows:

"The final 2 Heats of the State Championship were conducted on Saturday 6th March at Perth Dinghy Sailing Club.
The overall result came down to the final race, as the first 3 positions were on the line. Over the line in the final and last race was Tony Carr 1st Andrew Rose 2nd with Scott Olsen 3rd.  (see result sheet below for all results). Congratulations to Tony Carr on winning the title by 1 point, well done to Scott Olsen on finishing 2nd with Andrew Rose 3rd.
Congratulations also to Heidi Miller on being Lady Champion with Narelle Thomas 2nd and Anne Gaunt 3rd. Mystery prize winner was Lane Bauer.
The Association would like to thank our ongoing great sponsor Boating Hardware for his continuing support along with the all the volunteers that assisted over the series at Maylands Yacht Club and Perth Dinghy Sailing Club. Thank you to everyone that entered which made it a competitive series and lifted the profile of the Sabre class.
We look forward to having next year’s Boating Hardware State Championship with even more entries."

Well done Anne Gaunt on finishing 3rd overall lady sailor - and also Terry Gaunt Jnr who took out the first timber boat prize (12th overall). Barry Newell, sailing the oldest boat entered in the series, sailed very well to finish 15th overall. MYC had three men and three lady sailors competing in the titles which were well conducted in a friendly family atmosphere. PDSC always make the Maylands visitors welcome and MYC will be taking up committee positions on the State Association this season to be better represented.

Sabres have again proven scarce in Perth with MYC timber and fibreglass boats being quickly snapped up recently. These are both very good boats - Bruce Wood's #1901 timber boat going to Yanchep Sun City Yacht Club and #1671 fibreglass Estoile going to a new club member - stay tuned for more info in next week's newsletter.
Yanchep Sun City YC now have four Sabres sailing and are on the lookout for more boats!

Results are published each Monday afternoon on the MYC web site
