Brr.. we have crossed to late Autumn, hope you are enjoying all the amazing colours outside as leaves turn golden.

It's coming up to conference season and many have turned virtual as we try and work and adapt around Covid-19. Coding Grace won't be running events this year, but we will continue to keep track of Irish Tech Community and diversity events, opportunities and other announcements for you all.

🤩Congrats to all the folks who got elected to the very first PyLadies Global Council, check out the new council members here, they will be doing amazing things (on top of amazing work they have been doing already, I'm really excited and will definitely see how I can help them out.

🥳With all the darker and colder evenings drawing in, we are overloaded with entertainment but how about something geekier and you can participate in, and create your own music room with this Lo-Fi Player Tensorflow Project! Check it out at: https://magenta.tensorflow.org/lofi-player

💻You may or may not have heard of Hacktoberfest, but it's a way for you to contribute to an Open Source project. Be sure to read up on how to contribute to a project that's meaningful and helpful to the project maintainers, read a handy post by DEV if you are curious on how to get involved. FreeCodeCamp has some really good resources on contributing to Open Source projects on a longer term basis, not just for October, check it out here. 🌈

🥰Everyone take of themselves during this extraordinary period of our lives, check this twitter thread out on taking care of yourselves told through Schitt's Creek memes, I know the thread is for students, but it gave me a big laugh as I'm a big fan and I'm nodding all through the thread feeling all fuzzy and warm. Plus if you haven't seen it already, do, it's a clever and light-hearted comedy.

🤜🤛Don't forget to support your local organisers who are putting in a lot of effort setting up remote events and even though it opens up to reaching those more remotely, we all are hoping that in-person events will come back at some stage, it will make it all the more special to meet and connect up with new and old faces. The days might get darker earlier but we still have this amazing community supporting each other.
📢Maker-a-Day Open Call

Dublin Maker is running a Maker-a-Day during Science Week (Mon Nov 9 - Sat Nov 13). They are looking for Makers who can run a tutorial for 40-45 mins followed by 10 mins Q&A afterwards each day.
Deadline: Sun Oct 11 2020

Monthly Regulars
🛠Are you working on a project? Share it with us, I'm happy to have you as a guest blog. Drop me an email at contact@codinggrace.com.

😓BTW, I've started to notice that Irish events listings by organisers on meetup and eventbrite are getting non-Irish events mixed in, so shifting through them takes a wee bit more time. But I hope the curated list of mainly Irish Tech and Diversity in Tech events we have in our monthly newsletter (and our live blog) is of use to you until we figure out how/when we can run our own workshops.
🌈 Your Support 🌈

🤔We are still interested in finding out what you are interesting in learning, especially now that we are indoors and would be a great opportunity to learn new skills.

What do you want us to run?
🤲We mentioned this in our newsletter last month. We want to try and make Coding Grace sustainable, our huge expense is our accountant each year. So we are trying out Open Collective and we are open to donations from individuals and corporates. We are not-for-profit and it's wholly volunteer-based running it.

🔥Vicky on Mid Meet Py

The amazing Cheuk and Lais (who are  involved with Python Ireland, PyCon Ireland, EuroPython and many more) invited me for a chat on their vlog talking about origins of Python Ireland, PyCon Ireland, PyLadies Dublin and other Python related goodness. Enjoy!

🙋Vicky at EuroPython AMA

Although I was as involved with EuroPython 2020, I attended the EuroPython's first AMA on how they ran the conference virtually for the first time, lessons learnt and experiences to share.
📍Where am I this month?
I'm not going anywhere, still WFH. I'll still be running virtual PyLadies Dublin meetups. I say this every month... I'm def nearly got the hang of it. 😊 But... I'll be attending the following events:-
📖READ, 🎦WATCH, 🎧LISTEN
If you have something to share in our reading, podcast or video list, drop me an email.

Coding Grace's DEV ProfileWe are also on dev.to, it's a platform for devs to post what they are up to, and we are cross-posting to it ourselves. We are open to folks share articles with us, and if you are also on the platform, please follow us. If you want to contribute, I will send you the key to join us.
Any enquiries (incl. CFPs, announcements, etc), you can drop me an email at contact@codinggrace.com.
Finally, I know I'm repeating myself every month, but I hope everyone stay healthy and safe. #WearFaceMasks and #WashYourHands is ever so important right now, let's get through this together. 😷🧼

Thanks,

/// Vicky
