G21 HWB PILLAR UPDATE - MARCH 2021
DIRECTOR'S UPDATE

Welcome to our March edition of the G21 Health and Wellbeing Pillar Newsletter.

The G21 HWB Pillar held our first virtual Round Table Forum for 2021. The Forum heard from organisations and community members around current regional work in Gender Equality and Prevention of Violence against Women.  Over 40 G21 members attended the meeting, and discussion was rich on a regional approach for Gender Equality work for the next 4 years. This work is particularly important given the requirements under the new Gender Equality Act in Victoria.

The Connected Communities Project met in February, and have welcomed the DHHS roll out of the ‘Local and Vocal’ co-designed format across the entire West Division. This is part of the West Division youth social and wellbeing recovery funding and will replicate the Project idea across the entire West Division in the next 6 months. This involves replicating and implementing the successful ideas co-designed by G21 Youth who participated in the “Local and Vocal” youth summit online in late 2020.

The G21 Region Social Housing Project continues to progress with Homes Victoria and our LGAs. The G21 Region Social Housing Project is vital to ensure that we work with the Victorian State Government on the life changing “Big Housing Build” which will inject $5.3b into the Victorian economy to build and upgrade social housing right across our state. Some $215m has already been committed to our region.  This also includes building a vision and longer-term plan for social housing within the G21 Region.

The G21 Health and Wellbeing Pillar Healthier Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Initiative is well into the final year actions as part of the 4-year G21 Regional HEAL plan.  This includes ensuring the impacts and implications of the pandemic are woven into priority areas. We are beginning the review and evaluation of the 4 year HEAL regional plan, with outcomes to shape the next 4-year plan. All the latest information is available on the G21 website.

The “Growing up in G21” project is very near completion. After conducting far reaching consultation with key Early Years’ service providers across the G21, as well as with the Department of Education (DET) and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the document is in final draft phase. Further details around the official launch will be available shortly on our website.

Our website is updated daily with links around the latest COVID-19 advice and updates from DHHS, as well as comprehensive links around mental health and wellbeing, how to prevent infection and spread, and emergency relief and links to support for those experiencing financial distress.

The G21 HWB Team look forward to prioritising the health and wellbeing of the G21 Community and working collaboratively as we emerge from the COVID 19 pandemic.

Warm regards,
Zoe

IN MARCH THE G21 HWB PILLAR SUPPORTS
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.  Check out your local government website for events in your region.
