G21 HWB PILLAR UPDATE - FEBRUARY 2021
DIRECTOR'S UPDATE

Welcome to our first edition of the G21 Health and Wellbeing Pillar Newsletter. I hope you have had the opportunity to enjoy time with friends and family over the holiday period.

G21 enjoyed a successful Annual Stakeholder Forum in early December. Over 500 individuals from across the region tuned into the livestream event, and many more have watched the recorded event since.

The G21 Region Social Housing Project continues to progress. Meeting with Homes Victoria and our LGAs. The G21 Region Social Housing Project is vital to ensure that we work with the Victorian State Government on the life changing “Big Housing Build” which will inject $5.3b into the Victorian economy to build and upgrade social housing right across our state. Some $215m has already been committed to our region.  This also includes building a vision and longer-term plan for social housing within the G21 Region.

The G21 Health and Wellbeing Pillar Healthier Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Initiative is well into the final year actions as part of the 4-year G21 Regional HEAL plan.  This includes ensuring the impacts and implications of the pandemic are woven into priority areas. We are beginning the review and evaluation of the 4 year HEAL regional plan, with outcomes to shape the next 4-year plan. All the latest information is available on the G21 website.

The “Growing up in G21” project is very near completion. After conducting far reaching consultation with key Early Years’ service providers across the G21, as well as with the Department of Education (DET) and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the document is in final draft phase. Further details around the official launch will be available shortly on our website.

The G21 HWB Pillar is recommencing Round table meetings, revamped and renamed Forums as we adapt these meeting s to online formats. The first will focus on the work of Gender Equality and Prevention of Violence Against Women work that is currently occurring in the G21 Region. Further details and how to register are available on the G21 website.

The Connected Communities Project will meet again in February, implementing the successful ideas codesigned by G21 Youth who participated in the “Local and Vocal” youth summit online in late 2020.

Our website is updated daily with links around the latest COVID-19 advice and updates from DHHS, as well as comprehensive links around mental health and wellbeing, how to prevent infection and spread, and emergency relief and links to support for those experiencing financial distress.

The G21 HWB Team look forward to prioritising the health and wellbeing of the G21 Community and working collaboratively as we emerge from the COVID 19 pandemic.

IN FEBRUARY THE G21 HWB PILLAR SUPPORTS
As part of the Healthier Eating and Active Living priority, G21 is encouraging the community to Choose Water Everyday.

WHY?

  • Water is the healthiest option
  • Stay healthy, stay hydrated
  • If you are concerned about your weight or wanting to stay at a healthy weight, every soft drink you consume adds excess kilojoules. Swap from soft drink to water to reduce your kilojoules from drinks to zero!
  • Drink water to look after you teeth. Soft drinks are acidic and can cause tooth decay. Diet soft drinks are just as acidic, and have the same effect on tooth decay. Choose water to keep your healthy glowing smile!
  • Hydration helps improve energy levels and brain function.
  • Save money. Water from the tap is much cheaper than buying soft drinks, so every time you choose water you save money!
  • Water helps to maximise physical performance. Water is the best drink for re-hydrating while playing all sport activity lasting less than 90 minutes.
Choose Water Every Day
How many glasses of water have you had today?
