 Good Practice Framework

The Good Practice Framework: handling academic appeals: Delivering learning opportunities with others

Following consultation, the OIA has now published the new section of the Good Practice Framework, Delivering learning opportunities with others.

The section outlines additional good practice guidance for providers to consider when handling complaints and academic appeals in the context of delivering learning opportunities in higher education with others.

You can download this document from our website.

Consultation: supporting disabled students

The OIA is seeking comments on draft guidance on supporting disabled students.

The OIA has consulted with the Good Practice Framework Steering Group and the OIA’s Disability Experts Panel in preparing this draft guidance. The consultation closes on 31 May 2017 and the final version will be published in summer 2017.

You can find the consultation document on our website.

 New Format for Annual Letters

We hope to publish the Annual Letters for the year ended 31 December 2016 in early Summer 2017, after our Annual Open Meeting. This year, for the first time, the Annual Letters will be published in an online format as Annual Statements.

Annual Statements with data will only be issued for providers which were OIA members throughout 2016. As in previous years, those providers will receive a draft version of their Annual Statement prior to final publication. Providers which joined the OIA during 2016 will receive a simple explanatory Annual Statement, without data. These will also be published online for completeness.

Annual Report and Annual Open Meeting

Our Annual Report for 2016 will be published on Thursday 4 May 2017. This will then be presented by the Independent Adjudicator, Judy Clements, at the Annual Open Meeting in London on Monday 8 May 2017.

 Recent High Court Judgment

A recent high court judgment provided useful guidance for students and providers where the student wishes to preserve their rights to bring legal proceedings (usually judicial review proceedings) against the provider.

You can find out more on the judgment on our website.
