The Isthmus button at the top of this note is linked to the voting survey for the "BEST OF MADISON." We'd love your vote as the favorite Madison bookstore. You can vote for us your favorite new business too! Just saying'!
We have many new books in the store. The publishers representatives have been very good to us by providing advanced reader copies and suggesting authors who may not be mainstream and who are really good.

Sea of Stone by Michael Ridpath (trade paper)   (Iceland)
Ollie and Magnus Jonson have spent years trying to escape from the shadows of their past. Raised on a remote farmstead in Iceland, both brothers had to endure brutal violence at the hands of their grandfather. Now, decades later, the past has returned to haunt them both.

City of Devils by Diana Bretherick (hard cover)
The brightest mind in early criminology meets the darkest killer, in this debut mystery set in the heady, cultivated world of nineteenth century Turin.

The Arsonist by Sue Miller (hard cover)
Troubled by the feeling that she belongs nowhere after working in East Africa for fifteen years, Frankie Rowley has come home -- home to the small New Hampshire village of Pomeroy and the farmhouse where her family has always summered. On her first night back, a house up the road burns to the ground. Then another house burns, and another, always the houses of the summer people.

A Cut-Like Wound by Anita Nair (trade paper)
The first day of Ramadan in head-soaked Bangalore... a young man begins to dress: makeup, a sari, and expensive pearl earrings. Before the mirror he is transformed in Bhuvana. She is a hijra, a transgender seeking love in the bazaars of the city. What Bhuvana wants, she nearly gets: a passing man is attracted to this elusive young woman -- but someone points out that Bhuvana is no woman. For that, the interloper's throat is cut. A case for Inspector Borei Gowda, going to seed, at odds with those around him including his wife, his colleagues, even the informers he must deal with.

The Care and Management of Lies by Jacqueline Winspear (hard cover)
In July 1914, the ties between Kezia Marchant and Thea Brissenden, friends since girlhood, have become strained -- by Thea's passionate embrace of women's suffrage and by the imminent marriage of Kezia to Thea's brother, Tom, who runs the family farm. The book paints a poignant picture of love and friendship strained by the pain of separation and the brutal chaos of battle. Ultimately, it raises profound questions about conflict, belief, and love that echo in our own time.  By the author of the very popular Maisie Dobbs series.
