Hello <<First Name>>
I have included to YouTube clips from the annual Tai Chi workshop, read on to find out what they are.
Thanks to all those who made generous contributions towards the scholarship fund at the January workshop in Sydney. Marty Kidder donated badges to be sold, which raised $200. Two of our participants made private donations totalling $300 and those who wanted to keep their pillows and blankets contributed a further $135. That makes a grand total of $635!
I had the honour to present the inspirational Madam Myung Park with the Tai Chi for Health Institute’s most prestigious Innovative Excellence and Community Partnership Award. The only two other recipients have been the Greater Southern Area Health Service (GSHAS) from the NSW Health Department 2010 and The Hawaii team who presented at the American Society of Ageing International conference 2014. Wearing her traditional Korean costume, the very gracious Madame Park made a very moving speech at the Sydney One Week workshop. It was entirely in Korean, but she still managed to convey her emotions to such a degree that many of the audience were in tears. Watch this clip to see the ceremony, Professor Song has translated Madame Park’s speech at the introduction of the clip.
Madame Park has donated $1000 for a scholarship. Susan Thompson, a dedicated Tai Chi for Health teacher and OT is the winner of this scholar for her participation at the US One Week Workshop. Susan says: "I have read Madam Park’s story several times, and it has evoked much emotion. I am humbled and honored to receive a scholarship from her. Knowing her story, makes the scholarship even all that more meaningful. I am profoundly touched and thankful.
Tai Chi has already brought so much joy to me, and hopefully I am bringing joy to others through my teaching. I look forward to a lifetime of learning, growing and sharing.”
Good news, the Melbourne workshop is filling up but still has placement. The June workshop in Portland has reached 150 participants, normally we would close the workshop, but with re-structuring we are still able to take more participants. Do rush to register and let your friends know. I am very much looking forward to see you in one of the coming workshops this year.
Watch this video to see some of the Sydney 2015 highlights. I will be adding more talks and demonstrations to youtube in the coming weeks. See next month’s newsletter for more details.

A Letter to Dr Lam
Donna Malcolm, Instructor, Texas
A few weeks after the workshop in Dallas, I was chatting with an acquaintance, Sandra, who is now a very good friend. She had severe scoliosis as a teenager and had surgeries fusing her spine (ca 1959). She actually was hospitalized for a year and a half back then, as much of the surgery was ground breaking. Now she goes for pain management. She also has had various health issues, including adult onset of diabetes. She has lost a great deal of weight, which is a good thing and is practicing good dietary choices.
I told her she should come with me to Tai Chi! And it turned out she has always loved Tai Chi (had once bought a video by David Carradine, that Kung Fu actor). She is now attending Tai Chi with me in Linda Gibson's class with her sister-in-law (who is super fit and tall and thin, but has balance issues). I am so excited about it! She ordered your dvd and she and her husband are working on it together. And so your message spreads in Central Texas! We appreciate you very much!
Dr Lam replies:
Great to hear from you, and I love your beautiful Christmas photo! I am so happy that you shared tai chi with your friend and that it is working well for her.

Wonderful News from Hawaii
Ileina Ferrier, Master Trainer, Hawaii
Greetings Dr Lam,
In keeping with our motto, Branching Out to Your Community, and after several months of collaboration, it is with great pleasure that I send you the formal press release of the agreement between TCHI and American Specialty HealthFitness and Silver&Fit Program.
This relationship will support and grow our tai chi for health programs through a nationally recognized agency. As a result of ASH press releases, I have received several inquiries about our program, not only in Hawaii, but nationally. My workshops have received students as a result of the Silver&Fit’s ability to market through their national network and locally.
Special thanks to Penny Bailey, ASH Senior Manager Education & Training, I look forward to an enjoyable future and continuing support to spread the seeds of tai chi for health in our communities

Humour, Laughter and Radiant Health
Dr Bob McBrien, Master Trainer, Salisbury, MD, US
It is always an uplift to teach a class at a retirement community. Folks in my class at the Independent living unit are friendly and appreciative, giving me constant positive feedback. I just started a class in the assisted living unit and these folks are just as encouraged and encouraging in class. One ingredient to these classes that is no surprise, the students know how to enjoy healthy forms of humor. The old saying, "You don't stop laughing because you are growing old, you grow old because you have stopped laughing" is validated in those classes. This month's essay is focused on elders who are able to enjoy a good laugh every day.
* It was a slow news day at the local TV channel, so the manager sent his roving reporter out to the Retirement village. The assignment was to interview an old-timer who was celebrating his 102nd birthday. The reporter asked the gentleman, "Tell me Mr. Murphy what is you secret to longevity?" The gentleman ponder the question, then answered, " Just keep breathing."
*. Ralph was with his doctor for a regular check-up. His doctor said everything was fine and asked if there was anything else.
Ralph described a concern he had that his wife was losing her hearing. "Here's what you do," said the Doctor. "Stand about 40 feet away from her and in a normal speaking tone and find out if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response."
That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and Ralph was in the living room. He thought, "I'm about 40 feet away, let's see what happens." Then in a normal tone he said, "Honey, what's for dinner?" No response.
So Ralph move closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from and said "Honey, what's for dinner?" No response.
Next Ralph moves into the dining room, about 20 feet from his wife and repeats, "Honey, what's for dinner?" Again no response.
So, Ralph moves to the kitchen door, about 10 feet and asks. "Honey, what's for dinner?" Once again there is no response.
So he walks right up behind her and says, "Honey, what's for dinner? "
She says, "RALPH, for the FIFTH TIME, I'm cooking CHICKEN!"
