The 5th Annual
Vancouver Web Festival & Conference
is expanding with a new venue, new dates, enhanced programming and a strengthened advisory board!

Now open for submissions, the Vancouver Web Festival & Conference (VWF) is excited to announce that they are expanding and have moved venues to the world class Vancouver Convention Centre in the beautiful downtown harbour, adding new initiatives that will significantly enhance the festival’s content programming. VWF18 has been newly scheduled for April 19th-21st, 2018 to make it more timely for international & local attendance.

Virtual Reality at VWF18
VWF is focusing on storytelling advancements in web content. This includes awards and recognition for new digital series, pilots and VR categories to complement the existing digital series categories. Virtual Reality thought leaders, Hammer & Tong, will be participating as VWF continues to explore the major role technology plays in the sharing of stories. The VR element to VWF18 will include panels, workshops, a boot camp and VR display participation. “After being involved in year four, we find ourselves bringing virtual reality to the forefront of the festival in a big way and we are excited to help shape the future of VWF”, expressed Sean Ronan and James Kingstone of Hammer and Tong.
Online Content Creator Day
During the three-day festival, VWF will also include a fan-facing Online Content Creator Day, set for Saturday April 21st, with special guest panels, influencer-fan meet-ups and interactive performances with YouTubers and other online talent. This will help VWF bring web content fans closer to their idols.
Vancouver Web Fest's Newest Board of Directors

The VWF Board of Directors has also experienced a significant change with the additions of Mike Lolato of GRB Entertainment (Los Angeles, USA) and Eric Y. Lapointe of Just For Laughs (Vancouver, Canada).

Lolato is the first person to take on the new LA-based VWF advisor position, implemented earlier this year, to secure regional support given the industry relationships between Vancouver and Hollywood. This will support further industry relations given that the festival already attracts a large percentage of its audience from the United States. When asked what made him decide to join the board, Lolato expressed the following: “I come from the world of domestic and international program distribution and the quality of content at Vancouver Web Fest is exceptional.”

Lapointe, who recently moved to Vancouver, added that the “Vancouver Web Fest is leading the charge as to what future web content festivals and conferences will look like. I am amazed by the passion and vision that VWF Directors. Suzette Laqua and Paula Hoffmann, share. It’s my goal to support their efforts in becoming a major player in the digital landscape.”

A Word From VWF's Executive Director / Founder Suzette Laqua & Director of Development Paula Hoffmann
VWF, which has built its reputation as being the “Sundance of web festivals” (Indiewire, Dec.2016) will be adding new categories including the first awards for Pilot, VR and Dramedy. VWF will also continue to strengthen existing categories in Animation, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Science Fiction, Documentary, and Reality; focussing on how technology & storytelling interconnect. “It’s been an amazing five years and I’ve been so proud to see submissions come in from over 30 countries. Our new initiatives will provide the insight the industry demands and help grow our festival in the coming years.” Suzette Laqua, Executive Director / Founder, Vancouver Web Fest.
Director of Development, Paula Hoffmann added that “VWF has established itself as an intimate forum exploring the future of entertainment, building relationships between filmmakers and established entities in the entertainment industry. The result is that we have seen a significant increase of official selections being picked up for licensing and development deals.”

VWF18 will be accepting submissions internationally between September 1st and October 31st, 2017.
