In today's newsletter, we provide a reminder about tomorrow's real estate tax payment deadline, an update on the Fox reconstruction process, and more. As always, be sure to check out the bulletin board for updated public health guidance, Monday's City closure information, and more.
Real Estate Tax Payment Deadline
While the payment deadline for the first half of real estate taxes owed to the City is generally January 14th, because that falls on a weekend, and because Monday is a holiday, the effective deadline to remit payment on the first half of your real estate taxes is this coming Tuesday, January 17th. You can find more information on payment information, and contact information for the Finance Department should you have questions, here.
Upcoming City Meetings
There are a number of important City meetings being held next week, including:
The City Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday at 1:30pm. You can view the full agenda here.
The Safe & Healthy Streets Commission will meet on Wednesday at 2pm, in-person in the auditorium of the Main Library. This is an opportunity to provide public comment in support of enhanced safety and traffic control measures at the intersection of Robinson and Kensington. I encourage all of those who have spoken out on the dangers of this intersection to attend.
The Finance & Economic Development Committee will meeton Thursday at 1pm. You can view the full agenda here.
The Charter Review Commission will meet on Thursday at 6pm at the Police Academy Training Center. This will be the first public meeting of the Commission, which is tasked with reviewing and recommending changes to our City's Charter, the document that enumerates the powers granted by the State to the City of Richmond. You can learn more here.
Fox Reconstruction Update
Last night, I had the pleasure of attending a community meeting at Clark Springs where the design team and RPS offered an update on the reconstruction process for our beloved Fox Elementary. The design team Quinn Evans, as well as RPS and community stakeholders, are hard at work hammering out the final details of the proposed design, which is set to be finalized in April. Of additional interest to those in the Fan, we are working with the Superintendent towards opening up the field for temporary community use.
There will be a further presentation on Fox at the School Board meeting coming up on Tuesday, and you can find the agenda, the Superintendent's presentation, and information for that meeting here.
City offices will be closed on Monday in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The Black History Museum will be hosting a Day of Remembrance and Service event at 9am on Monday, with opportunities to participate in community service projects. You can check out more information below the bulletin. Lastly, for more information on impacts to City services and schedules, check out the graphic below the bulletin board as well. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
Sincerely, Katherine
