Editorial
Dear partners, dear readers,
 
At Convergences World Forum focusing on the objective “Zero exclusion, Zero carbon, Zero poverty”, Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, reaffirmed the commitment of Monaco in its efforts to preserve the environment, provide economic prosperity and human development, purpose of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
 
This past summer, the Monegasque Cooperation agenda was highlighted by the strengthening of bilateral relations with Mauritania, the signing of strategic partnerships with the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), the Order of Malta, as well as Medicines for Malaria Venture Foundation, all of which enable the support of important projects that contribute to the SDGs.
 
Lastly, in July, we had the joy of celebrating the 300th child operated in the Principality by the Monaco Collectif Humanitaire.

Fighting malaria in Africa : Monaco signs agreement with Swiss foundation MMV
H.E. Ms Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations in Geneva, signed a memorandum of understanding between the Monegasque Government and the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) foundation, to develop an innovative antimalarial drug which is affordable and suitable for young children and pregnant women.

Prince’s Government participates in Convergences World Forum
Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, spoke at the closing ceremony of the Convergences World Forum on 7 September 2016. This year’s Forum – the ninth edition – was held from 5 to 7 September at the Palais Brongniart in Paris under the theme “Managing the transition towards sustainable cities and territories”.

Focus on
Partnership with Sciences Po Menton Campus on international development challenges enters third year

Initiated in 2014, the partnership aims to raise the awareness of students at the Middle East-Mediterranean Campus in Menton – future decision makers – of the challenges involved in international development.

A New Monaco International Volunteer in Madagascar
Myriam Landau, a Monaco International Volunteer, began her voluntary work this summer at the Pasteur Institute in Madagascar. She will be a great support to the team of the BIRDY project , financed by Monaco's Official Development Assistance.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation between Mauritania and the Principality of Monaco
From 27 to 29 July 2016, a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation made an official visit to Mauritania to meet with the Mauritanian authorities and partners of Monaco's Official Development Assistance.

Cooperation mission to Senegal
From 12 to 20 July 2016, the Department of International Cooperation visited Senegal to meet its local partners in the country. Working sessions provided an opportunity to discuss the programmes supported by Monaco’s Official Development Assistance, notably combatting sickle-cell disease, improving maternal and infant health, helping young people to access employment, and providing assistance to victims of trafficking.

Monaco Collectif Humanitaire celebrates 300th child to receive surgery in presence of goodwill ambassador, footballer Olivier Giroud

On 26 July, members and loyal donors of the Monaco Humanitarian Collective gathered at the Cardiothoracic Centre to celebrate little Fanta from Mali, the 300th child to receive surgery in the Principality of Monaco.

Partnership with FAO in Northern Mali
On Friday 8 July, the Malian Ministry for the Promotion of Women, Children and Families and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) signed a project to support the economic empowerment of women. Thanks to funding from the Prince’s Government, 1,000 women living in rural areas will benefit from assistance to develop market gardening businesses.

Order of Malta, Partner of Monaco’s Official Development Assistance
The Prince’s Government and the Sovereign Order of Malta have recently entered into a new partnership to support medical and social centres for the elderly and vulnerable in the areas surrounding Beirut.

Established in 2006 in order to facilitate the professional and social integration of rural youth, the farming School Eau de Coco in Fianarantsoa (Madagascar) celebrated its 10th anniversary!

Support for the disabled

Rachid Saihi, a young beneficiary of the AMSAT  cookery workshop (Moroccan Association of Support and Aid for Trisomic people), which is supported by the Prince's Government, has won 1st prize in the "Assiette Gourm’Hand " international cookery competition.  He was received at the Elysée Palace, where the prize was presented to him by François Hollande, Honorary President of the contest.
