🚂 TriMet wants your Lego pics
Plus, which Portlander would be the best Samantha?
Welcome to Wednesday.
It’s Inauguration Day, and the swearing in of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Scroll on for more details about how Oregon’s prepared for potential fallout from the event.
On a lighter note, it’s also National Cheese Lover’s Day.
And if, like your editor, you find working on your Night Cheese helps pass the time (and the stress of the state of the world), check out these local Portland cheese shops if you’re down with the dairy. And if you’re rocking that plant-based life, I strongly recommend hitting up Vtopia for some decadent cashew cheeses.
For our news roundup today we have questions about possible snow, volunteers picking up literal tons of trash, TriMet Lego sets, and an article about which Portlander would be the best Samantha.
Today our Bridgeliner Unabridged members get to see which Portland Coffee Roaster they are. Wanna join the fun? Become a member today.
Here we go.

3 things to know today
💉 The Oregon Convention Center is now a vaccination hub. Large-scale vaccinations of those in the Phase 1A group of the state's distribution plan, such as healthcare workers, will begin there today. Kaiser Permanente will kick things off and be joined later in the week by additional healthcare systems as capacity ramps up. Meanwhile, Oregonians aged 65+ are condemning Gov. Kate Brown’s recent shift to make senior citizens wait until February for vaccinations. Get a breakdown of the backlash here.
🌨️ Is Portland in for some snow next week? Short answer: Maybe. The National Weather Service said a LOT of factors will need to line up in order for the flurries to fly. Regardless, stay warm out there, Portland. And hope that this doesn’t lead to another Snowpocalypse 2017.
🗳️ It’s Inauguration Day today — and Oregon cities are prepped for protests. Oregon’s National Guard and the FBI’s Portland field office have made moves in recent weeks to prepare for civil unrest ahead of the inauguration. Agencies at all levels were told “to prepare for ‘potential violent activity’ similar to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and face-off between right- and left-wing protesters at the Oregon Capitol the same day.” Read the latest here.
3 things to make you smile
🚄 Hey, do you still have your limited edition TriMet Lego set? If so, TriMet wants pics. The 2017 sets sold out in a record two minutes when sales were opened back in the pre-pandemic days. A happy Portlander discovered theirs the other day, and TriMet wants to dive into the nostalgia (I mean, same tbh) with photos of the sets. You can hit up TriMet on Twitter to make someone’s day.
🌎 Volunteers on MLK Day picked up over 4,300 pounds of trash with SOLVE. Check out how these awesome folks moved approximately TWO TONS of garbage off our streets here.
👠 A lineup of Portlanders who could pull off playing Samantha in the Sex & The City reboot? Some candidates on the list include the mayor, Tracy Barry, and more. Got a Portlander who really ought to have made the list? Hit reply to this email and let us know.
