🚨 Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo has had his hands full recently. Amid his ongoing clash with city commissioners Joe Carollo, Alex Diaz de la Portilla and Manolo Reyes, the embattled police chief submitted a plan of action to City Manager Art Noriega earlier this week. The memo is meant to address criticisms of Acevedo’s performance by aforementioned officials. Per Local 10, the police chief has drawn their ire in part for accusing them of ”interfering with an internal affairs investigation and of manipulating the MPD budget to get in the way of his reforms.” According to the Miami Herald, rumors are swirling that he may soon be removed from the position. 😷 Miami-Dade is one of several school districts being sanctioned for not complying with state rules regarding mask mandates. The Florida Board of Education voted yesterday to withhold funds from multiple school districts requiring students to wear masks without the option of a parent or guardian opt-out. Broward Interim Superintendent Vickie Cartwright said the school district would comply with the state rule "once the data enables us to do so in a manner that will protect the health and safety of our students, teachers and other employees.” (CBS Miami)

Speaking of Florida schools, the state’s Department of Education is setting a poor example when it comes to handing your work in on time: Headlines made the rounds this week after the U.S. Department of Education shared that Florida was the only state that hadn’t submitted a plan for using federal COVID-19 relief funds. Perhaps because $2.3 billion was on the line, the state finally submitted its proposal on how to use the money days later; let’s hope the U.S. government doesn’t demerit for tardiness, eh? 🏡 A Miami Beach mansion once owned by Al Capone may no longer be in danger of demolition. Developers who’d planned to tear down the home and replace it with more modern trappings recently sold it to an LLC managed by a Coral Gables accountant for $15.5 million. (Local 10)

A Florida political alumnus has been confirmed as an official with the U.S. Secretary of Education. Gwen Graham, an ex-congresswoman and daughter of former Florida governor and U.S. senator Bob Graham, was confirmed as the department's assistant secretary for legislation and congressional affairs on Wednesday.
