Happy Friday!

Are you ready for some heat, Seattle? Washington has had its fourth driest March and April since 1895, and it looks like the trend will continue through summer. While we all love our sunny Seattle summers that remind us why we put up with so much grey, this does mean that the conditions are ripe for fires wildfires, both manmade and wild.

Keep reading for our Q&A with U District Food Bank, your last chance to enter our giveaway with the Neighborhood Farmers Market, and at the very end, a beer-centric activity for this weekend.

3 Things Seattle is talking about

🗺A 24-foot totem pole is making the journey from the Lummi reservation to Washington, D.C. this summer. The totem pole is a gift to the Biden administration and also a call for the executive branch to protect sacred places under threat of development. The trip is being called the “Red Road to D.C. tour” and will stop at places like Bears Ears National Monument in Utah and the Dakota Access crude oil pipeline to highlight environmental threats to Indigenous peoples in North America. ➡️Three Native-led homeless outreach groups sent the mayor a letter rejecting provisions of their 2021 contracts. The three groups — Mother Nation, Seattle Indian Health Board, and Chief Seattle Club — stated that the contracts would exacerbate existing inequalities. The new contract would require these groups to drop their existing client base and address whichever encampment the city had prioritized that particular week. (PubliCola)

⭐️This podcast dissects Yelp reviews — the good and the bad. The owner of Watson’s Counter, James Lim, sits down with co-host Amy Faulkner and interviews people who own a business subject to Yelp or Google reviews. One of their episodes includes Sweet Alchemy’s owner Lois Ko, who recalls a customer’s scathing review after they were informed samples were being limited. You can find the podcast Dear Elite Reviewer here. (Seattle Met)

One more thing …

If you like to bike — or even just want an excuse to drink beer — check out the Cascade Bicycle Club’s Bike-n-Brew ride. Technically you can’t register for the ride anymore, but the route is still available online and there’s no excuse to not support local breweries and Cascade Bicycle Club.

Starting in Georgetown at Two Beers, you’ll hop on the Green River and Interurban Trails and head to Kent where you can grab a pint at Airways Brewing and head back to the finish and pick up some beer to-go at Georgetown Brewing Company

It’s 32 miles but basically all flat. And hey, if you want to cut down the ride and start somewhere closer to Airways, we won’t tell. I did the ride with a friend last weekend, and it was super fun. We went a little bit later and caught golden hour all the way back. I may have been exhausted the next day, but the beer and truffle fries were worth it. If you do end up doing the ride, send pictures or tag us on our Instagram — we wanna see!

We’ll be back next Tuesday.
