Plus, the latest on demonstrations in Cuba and yet another Miami building is evacuated.

It’s Tuesday.

Hope everyone managed to keep dry yesterday.  We’re only two days into the week, but it’s already shaping up to be a busy one — no need to stand in the way of you and your local headlines, read on below...

There are far less pretty places to spend your weekend than Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, that’s for sure. | Want to see your own picture in this space? Tag either #thenewtropic or @thenewtropic to be featured in our Instagram of the Day.  (📸: @xplore_your_city)

🇨🇺 Thousands took to the streets all across Cuba on Sunday in the largest anti-government demonstrations of their kind in nearly three decades. The protests prompted a similar show of solidarity here in Little Havana along with comments from local leaders on how to conduct U.S.-Cuba policy moving forward. The island, currently subject to U.S. financial sanctions, is experiencing unrest amid food shortages and blackouts. (Miami Herald / The Guardian)

🗣 Power 96 host Lucy Lopez announced her departure from the radio station in a statement shared on social media last Friday. The longtime on-air personality and Hialeah native used her exit announcement to thank everyone who helped her during the more than two decades she spent at the station. The Miami-Dade County Courthouse was the latest area building to be evacuated on Friday. The courthouse, which was built in 1928, was said to have “safety concerns” following an audit by engineers; several such inspections have been conducted on 305 high-rises in the wake of the Champlain Towers South disaster. 🚨 Another South Florida man has been apprehended as a suspect in the assassination of Haiti’s late president, Jovenel Moïse. The arrest of Christian Emmanuel Sanon is the latest local connection to the political killing; reports emerged last week that several detainees accused of being involved with the attack were hired by Doral-based company CTU Security. 📰 The death toll at Champlain Towers South has risen to 94, with 22 people still listed as missing. Officials have said there may still be two-to-three weeks left of recovery efforts at the collapsed condo. Meanwhile, conversations are beginning to take place about the future of the disaster site — many local leaders have said it’s too soon to decide what’s next for the property but signaled that a memorial of some sort is likely.
