💨 ‘Tear Gas Ted’ pepper sprayed a Portlander
Plus, check out these CBD teas.
Welcome to Wednesday.
Yesterday I asked you if Portland pizza is better than New York pizza. And reader Mick responded with some very salient points.
“For gourmet / creative pizza, I think there could be a real argument for Portland beating NYC,” Mick said. “But if we are strictly talking about your basic slice of pizza — nobody does it better than New York.”
What do you think, pizza enthusiasts? Also, I (mostly) grew up with Costco pizza, so I really want a-pizza this saucy education. Sorry, I’ll stop, you can crust me on this one.

💢 Mayor Ted Wheeler pepper-sprayed a man outside of McMenamins. The man, who Wheeler said wasn’t wearing a mask, accused the mayor of not wearing a mask in public and began closely following him down the street. Wheeler said he warned the man to back away and when he didn’t, the mayor pepper-sprayed him in the eyes. Read the full breakdown here, via The Oregonian.
💉 The Oregon BIPOC Caucus want to prioritize vaccinating essential workers. In a letter to the Vaccine Advisory Committee, the lawmakers advocated for the “need to prioritize the people who are in significantly vulnerable situations and who are dying right now — frontline workers, adults in custody, and people in low-income senior housing, and other congregate care facilities.” Get the rest of the story here from OPB.
⚖️ A man who smashed up a local gas station and yelled anti-Muslim slurs is facing six counts of bias crimes. The suspect came in to purchase cigarettes last Friday and shouted at the clerk, who is from Afghanistan, threatening him with violence and trashing the surroundings. The incident was caught on video. The Oregonian has the rest of the details here.
