4 things Seattle is talking about

😋  Have a bite of history at these old Seattle institutions. From the Mecca Cafe to Maneki to Dick’s, this article takes a look back at some of the city’s oldest restaurants still in business. There’s nothing quite like returning to the same place throughout your life to order that special dish — you might change, but hopefully, the food won’t. (Seattle PI)

👠  The Royal House of Noir is an all-Black kiki ballroom house. All six members are performance artists and community activists in the Seattle area. The fact that this house is all-Black is significant for our city, considering the violence and discrimination that queer trans people of color experience. Part of the group's mission is to provide a place and resources for the Black queer trans community. (South Seattle Emerald)

🤖  This robot will fetch and park your car for you. The upscale South Lake Union condo, Spire, will let residents leave their cars at one of three elevators which will lower their vehicles into the garage. From there, the cars are shuttled into their parking place. The idea behind using this technology is to eliminate ramps and driving lanes which take up lots of space. (The Seattle Times)

♻️  Get to know Ridwell, a startup recycling company based right here in Seattle. The business started after Ryan Metzger and his then 7-year-old son discovered just how hard it is to properly dispose of old batteries. Ridwell collects hard-to-recycle items and passes them on to be recycled or reused by their partners. So far, they estimate that they’ve diverted over 2 million pounds of materials from the landfills. If you’re interested in the company’s services you can learn more on their website. (GeekWire)
