Plus, the 13 hottest restaurants in Orlando right now and Florida students are staying masked... for now.

By Katie Johnston

It’s Thursday, the sun is shining (maybe), there’s a storm brewing somewhere (because there always is during a Florida summer, but also maybe because Tropical Storm Mindy is moving around in the gulf), and after a months-long battle, it’s official: Public schools in Florida can impose mask mandates at their discretion

Leon County Circuit Judge John Cooper reiterated last month's ruling that Gov. Ron DeSantis’ order prohibiting school mask mandates was unconstitutional. The judge determined the blanket ban violated Florida’s new Parent’s Bill of Rights and echoed his previous findings during a court hearing yesterday, emphasizing that the state cannot ban school districts from imposing mask mandates while it appeals his Aug. 27 ruling.

A spokesperson for the governor’s office said they’d be appealing Cooper’s latest ruling as well. In the meantime, many school districts are mandating masks, some with medical-only opt-outs (Orange County) and others allowing opt-outs from parents (Seminole County). I’ll keep you posted if anything changes.

That'll do it on the masking for now. Let’s switch gears and dive into some delicious food news, shall we? (I know, I know, that usually goes down in the inbox on Wednesdays, but my days are all confused from the long weekend, so here we are. 🤪)

Speaking of delicious food, how about the Choco Fruity Pebbles cookie from Choco Loco Cookies? Fruity Pebbles is hands down the best cereal around. Amirite or am I right? You can order your cookie now for Monday delivery or Tuesday pickup — your choice. 📸: @chocolococookies | Wanna see your photo here? One more thing

The rapper Lil Nas X is showing love to local nonprofit Bros in Convo via his latest "album reveal". While promoting his new album, "Montero", Lil Nas X released a "baby registry" of sorts, asking followers to donate to charity and community activist orgs that correspond with each of the album's 15 tracks. Corresponding with the song, "That's What I Want," is Bros in Convo, a local transinclusive, "Black Queer-led org that promotes and provides health equity to Black gay, bisexual, queer, and same gender loving men in Central Florida." You might recognize the name from our previous interview with its fearless leader, Daniel J. Downer. 😉

You can make a donation directly to the org here and know that your money goes towards things like groceries, healthcare, transportation, and technology for our local Black LGBTQ+ community.

Do something nice for someone today, whydontya?

'Til tomorrow!
