😞 Bad news for Miamians who like good music

Plus, the latest on Hurricane Sam.

By Zach Schlein

Welcome to Tuesday.

Some weather we’re having, huh? Following the weekend’s scattered storms, it’s been nothing but cool breezes, sunshine, and good vibes across the 305. If you can believe it, we’re even seeing temps drop into the 70s. 👀🙏👀

And that’s not all — there’s more good weather-related news where that came from...

🌪 Hurricane Sam is currently projected to remain at sea through the weekend. Concerns arose about the storm last week and for good reason: on Sunday, Sam matched Hurricane Ida as the strongest storm of this year’s hurricane season. Forecasters are also keeping their eyes peeled on two disturbances congealing behind Sam. 👀 (WLRN)

📰 Miamians got the news: Steely Dan’s four-night residency at the Fillmore Miami Beach has been postponed until next year. Although neither the band nor the venue have officially commented on the calendar change, ticket holders were notified yesterday that the shows wouldn’t be taking place as planned next week. I — hi, Zach here 👋 — was among them, as was New Tropic contributor Juan Barquin; considering that both of us used our respective spaces within this newsletter to express our excitement about the concerts, neither took the news particularly well. The shows have been tentatively rescheduled for July 2022, so while the delay isn’t quite a royal scam, it is still a major disappointment. (Juan Barquin via Twitter)

➡️ Demolition began yesterday on the remains of FIU’s collapsed pedestrian bridge. More than three years have passed since the March 2018 tragedy that killed six and left Miami-Dade reeling, but the columns still present on both sides of 8th Street are finally being removed. The plan is to make way for a new bridge that’s slated to begin construction in 2023. (CBS Miami)

😨 Florida is among the states experiencing a nationwide salmonella outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control is collaborating with state and local officials across the country to pinpoint the source that’s caused nearly 300 people to fall ill. (Local 10)
