💰 From $0 to $15 million, here’s how much the mayoral candidates are worth

Plus: You can now throw axes and drink beer.

How’s it going this Wednesday?

First off, how many of you have been vaccinated? Hopefully, most everyone but if you haven’t and are looking for an appointment, the city wants you to know they have a LOT of openings

We mentioned it yesterday but want to remind you again that if you’re over the age of 16 and either live or work in King County, you can make an appointment at one of the four city-run vaccination sites. And if you’re 60 or older, you don’t even need an appointment at the Rainier Beach or West Seattle sites. Know someone over the age of 60 who hasn’t been vaccinated? Take them to either site, and you can both get vaccinated without an appointment! Register here.

Now that we have that public service announcement out of the way, let’s get to the headlines.

What Seattle is talking about

State senator Joe Nguyen is running for King County Executive. Current King County Executive Dow Constantine has held the position since 2009. Nguyen, who grew up in White Center and is the son of refugees, is poised to be Constantine’s first real challenger. (South Seattle Emerald)

  • Related: South Seattle Emerald is a small news organization like us. Their coverage of South Seattle is important in amplifying voices that may not be heard from otherwise. Right now they’re asking for monetary support for their seventh anniversary. From one local media org to another, we encourage you to donate to them and, for that matter, any other local news outlet you enjoy and want to see stick around. (That includes us! Become an Evergrey Extra member here to get extra daily content and make our daily newsletter possible.)

Here’s what the mayoral candidates have reported about their own finances. The leading candidates in the race for mayor disclosed estimates of their net worth (including spousal assets) that were filed with the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission. They range from $0 to $15 million. (The Seattle Times)

What goes better with axe throwing than, well ... beer? Capitol Hill’s axe throwing spot, Blade and Timber, finally got the go-ahead to sell alcohol starting Friday. The venue will be the first of its kind in the state where you can both enjoy a pint and let out your anger with a flying blade. (Eater Seattle)

Live music is back, and our wallets are already hurting. Bumbershoot is being postponed once again until 2022 when it’ll come back “reimagined” and return to its roots as a celebration of all arts and culture. But there is one festival that’s coming back this year: Freakout Festival announced it’ll return in November. Tickets are on sale now. (KEXP)

👋 Who’s behind The Evergrey?

We have an extremely lean, scrappy team (it’s just me!) that’s always wrestling with that key, startup question: How do “we” make you the best dang newsletter we can, while making sure we don’t a) spread ourselves too thin, b) burn out, or c) step back from that all-important goal of growing The Evergrey not just as a great community but as a sustainable business?

On that note, we have a favor to ask you: If you dig what we do for you and your city but haven’t joined us as a supporting member yet, would you consider supporting us financially? It’s basically the cost of a couple of lattes every month. 😋
