Okareka Youth Christmas Show, Summer School 2016... It's all still going strong for Okareka Dance Company since returning from Edinburgh, Scotland. See Below for details on our very exciting youth show starting this week and enrolment details for our summer school in 2016.
Merry Christmas from Okareka Dance Company!
From next week Okareka Dance Company, with the support of TAPAC (The Auckland Performing Arts Centre), will present its end-of-year Koanga Youth Project.

Audiences will experience a show built on provocations about their personal Christmas experiences and stories, which are then choreographed by Jessie McCall and Jesse Wikiriwhi, with direction from Okareka Artistic Director Taiaroa Royal.

Okareka Dance Summer School Enrolments Open!
Okareka Dance Company are excited to announce that enrolments are now open for their hugely successful annual summer school. As the company goes from strength to strength on the international stage, their passion to share their knowledge with upcoming dance artists has never phased. Co Artistic Directors Taiaroa Royal and Taane Mete, lead by General Manager Rachael Penman are excited about another year teaching the youth of today.
Okareka Dance Company’s education programme is recognised by leading dance institutions, Unitec Dance and the New Zealand School of Dance as an important step for students wanting to extend their training at a tertiary level as well as giving aspiring dancers a glimpse into the world of the life as a professional dancer and all that it entails.
Fresh from their five week season of ‘K’RD Strip – A Place to Stand’ which gained celebrity and international recognition at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, Taiaroa and Taane are looking forward to getting back into the studio with aspiring artists and sharing their wealth of knowledge. The two week intensive worksop brings together young artists from all backgrounds to learn from professional artists who are leaders in their own right, culminating in an informal performance at Q Theatre, long supporters of Okareka.
With the Support of Unitec, the summer school will take place at the Unitec Dance Studios where students will participate in daily classes and workshops as well as presentations from some of New Zealand’s most talented artists.
But wait there’s more… Enrol for the Summer School before the 1st December 2015 and you will receive a free double pass to the upcoming Youth Project by Okareka Dance Company – Kirihimete o te Rangatahi, a full length work devoted to the stories of our youth and what Christmas means to them, choreographed by Okareka Alumni Jesse Wikiriwhi and emerging choreographer Jessie McCall.
Interest is already high and there are strictly limited places so if you are interested in enrolling, please email Jesse Wikiriwhi at education@okareka.com for more information and an enrolment form.
Sincerely,
Okareka Dance Company
