HOW DO WE GET BIG TECH TO BE ETHICAL?

Big tech took another licking from media and organisations ranging from military contracts (Microsoft/HoloLens) and paedophiles rings in comment sections (YouTube). Will big tech grow a conscience or is regulation the only thing that will really change these giant megacorps that we've created? Academics disagree on the correct course of action but capitalism suggests that no corporation will go against profit right now. Pulling ad spend is a good start but keeping it off is the challenge. Data shows that YouTube ad spend barely saw a blip from the last ad-withdrawal so is it up to brands to lead the charge? Big tech cannot continue to hide behind big, lofty goals but fall down and not protect people without repercussion. Internally, the argument needs to move away from 'Is this legal?' to 'Is this fair?' and externally, governments and the public need to push for change.

DO   Think about your brand taking a stand on an issue. From not using a platform to actively calling for others to boycott, corporations and individuals do have power even if it doesn't seem like they do. Go big on the PR.  ///    DON'T   Ignore the problems big tech is being accused (and in most cases guilty of), it's your world and we're getting to a stage now where real impacts can be seen and future impacts aren't good. You choose where you spend your money so will you be part of the solution?
