THE ACHES AND PAINS OF WINTER - NECKS, UPPER BACK

As winter is in full swing we are seeing a number of people come into the practice with typical winter aches and pains in particular neck and upper back pain.

So why is that? Throughout the year we take part in many activities that can put a lot of stress on shoulders and necks such as lifting heavy objects, sitting poorly at the computer, watching TV and driving, mental stress just to name a few.

However, during the winter months when we indulge in the same activities, we instinctively hunch over to keep our bodies warm. This can lead to muscle tightness at the front of the shoulders and the back of the neck.  There is also a relationship between arthritis and colder weather with increasing pain in arthritic joints as the temperatures lower.

Have a look at the short video where I show you a couple of exercises to help a painful neck, shoulders, and the upper back.

Our latest blog talked about shoulders – so have a look at this to get some help if you have painful shoulders.

As winter is in full swing we are seeing a number of people come into the practice with typical winter aches and pains in particular neck and upper back pain.
In this video our CEO and Principal Physiotherapist, Deborah Hunter discusses the causes of neck and upper back pain and demonstrates exercises you can do to prevent pain and injury.

COVID-SAFE PRACTICES

Dear valued clients, friends and community,

We are once again facing Covid-19 restrictions in regional NSW. Requirements were effective 6pm 26 June 2021.

If you have an upcoming appointment with us please note that both our staff and yourself will be required to wear a mask. And we will take your temperature on arrival. You will also be asked to sign in using the QR code. If you cannot use the QR sign in please let us know on arrival and we will keep a record.

Our wellness classes are able to continue under current restrictions as long as participants are wearing masks at all times.

Please view the linked video for an overview of our covid- safe hygiene practices. If you have concerns or would like to switch to a telehealth appointment please contact our reception.

And we ask that if you have any symptoms you contact us so that we can rearrange your appointment.

We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our practices accordingly.
Caring for our clients, staff and our community remains our highest priority. Move Better for Life is adhering to strict COVID-safe practices.

ARE YOU MISSING OUT? STRENGTH TRAINING IS FOR EVERYONE!

Strength training makes a difference at all ages!
Strength training is actually “resistance training” and the resistance can be in the form of hand weights, weight machines, and resistance bands. In fact, a suitable place to start strength training focuses on performing exercises using your bodyweight. In this blog, MyAge.Fit provides an insight into strength training and shares a series of exercise challenges to help you build up your strength and keep you active and motivated.
Looking for an easy way to improve your focus on your health in 2021? Our regular VLOGs by our Principal Physiotherapist, Deborah Hunter and exercise physiologists address common problems and quick tips you can use to address or minimise your risk of injury or improve your health.
