GROW citizen scientists

The GROW Observatory is a European-wide project engaging thousands of growers as citizen scientists.

We will learn together, using simple tools to better manage soil, while contributing to vital global environmental monitoring. We would love a strong permaculture presence in the project.

If you are interested, please sign up using the online form at http://growobservatory.org.

The GROW project is funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, under grant agreement No 690199.

Cultivate GROW Observatory in Ireland

Cultivate is happy to announce its role as the Irish partner in GROW Observatory, a European-wide project supporting the emergence of a movement of citizens sharing knowledge and data on soil.

People of all ages and backgrounds are being invited to become ‘citizen scientists’ and take practical steps to preserve the soil for future generations as well as help with forecasting and preparing for climate events, such as heat waves and floods, by validating the detection of soil moisture from satellites.

Cultivate is broadcasting a call to action for all allotment & small farm holders, and anyone involved in a community or school garden to get involved by going to www.growobservatory.org or emailing grow@cultivate.ie for more details.

People interested in this new project, especially youths and those with youth programs, can find more information at: http://www.yip.childreninpermaculture.com/

Learning Journeys in Ireland

by Devyn Olson-Sawyer

Cultivate has been organising group tours and study visits for many years, and now that we are based in the Ecovillage in Cloughjordan, Co Tipperary, these visits have taken on a new life.

Our themes of Permaculture Collaborative Economy, Community Resilience and Green Building are reflected through the study visits, and many groups design their own programme with us. It is fantastic for us to see groups of diverse participants all exploring new ideas and experiences, and we always learn something new from them as well.

If your group or someone you know might be interested, you can find more information at http://cultivate.ie/community-resilience/1264-learning-journeys-and-study-visits or get in touch learningjourneys@cultivate.ie.
