Dear <<First Name>>
Wednesday will be exactly 50 years since that day in 1965. It was the first game of the World Series. And the world-famous pitcher, Sandy Koufax, sat out because it was Yom Kippur.
On one of the most important days of his life, when ALL of his fame, hard work, personal identity, and pride, was at odds with his religious tradition, he showed the world that Jewish identity matters. He showed the world that Jewish traditions matter. They need to be respected in our lives, even here, as we’re adapting to the modern (and post-modern) realities of America.
You may not know how to pitch, BUT YOU CAN BE YOUR OWN SANDY KOUFAX! You can stand out and stand up, and do what that voice deep inside you is urging you to do!
