Dear Depot Community,

Every year, September signals changes at The Depot as gardeners begin their last harvests of the season and many of our healthy food programs resume after a summer break.

This year, the end of summer also meant yet another move for The Depot. With hockey gradually starting back up we had to leave the Doug Harvey Arena at the end of August. Thanks to the support of the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough, our emergency food basket program operations are now set up at the Le Manoir centre on Decarie Ave. We are offering our home deliveries of food baskets out of this new location. To date, we've delivered over 350,000 pounds of healthy food since the beginning of the pandemic.
As the weather cools down, we are continuing to imagine how we can run programs online and to explore options for safely moving some programs indoors, such as our Good Food Markets and the Social Justice Club. We've already run successful pilots of online cooking workshops, providing ingredient kits so people can cook at home.

In the past six months, our organization has had to reinvent itself multiple times. I'm so proud of how our team and our community have tackled these challenges head on. As we approach fall, we are hoping for more stability with our programs, volunteer opportunities and community events, but rest assured, we are prepared and able to adapt to any curveballs thrown our way.

We are cognisant of the immense responsibility you have entrusted in us and we will continue to work tirelessly to maintain a multifaceted approach to our community's food security that recognizes that emergency food services themselves will not eradicate poverty or structural societal inequities. In the coming years, we hope The Depot will become an integral component of a recovery effort where everyone in our community can come together around healthy food to build a more inclusive, just and resilient society. To this end, we will continue to pursue our building project and will share updates with you in the coming months.

Thank you for your continued support,

Daniel and the Depot team

Share a meal and make a difference!

Along with our partners at Community Food Centres Canada, we're inviting you to participate in the second annual Big Social, a nation-wide event that brings people together around a good meal to support healthy food programs in their community.

This year, we encourage you to think about gathering online! Maybe this is the opportunity to reconnect with long-distance friends or see how each guest reinterprets the same recipe in their own kitchen.

We will be announcing more ideas and exciting partnerships soon. Meanwhile, find out more at bigsocial.ca

Boîte à Lunch is growing

We are proud to announce the launch of Boîte à Lunch workships in Côte-des-Neiges as a partnership with PROMIS, an organisation offering support to new arrivals in Canada. This partnership brings the total number of neighbourhoods hosting Boîte à Lunch programs to six across greater Montreal!

At the same time, we've launched a Boîte à Lunch YouTube Channel where you will find new videos each week. We look forward to cooking with you!
