Gracious reader,

Welcome to the last issue of How To Have a Job.  Thanks to everyone who signed up, read, shared and sent me feedback over the last couple of years.  

Many of you joined this list early on; it was an experimental side project of On Management, where I write about creating more human/e workplaces through our relationships at work.  Going forward, I’ll be concentrating my How to Have a Job efforts over there.

For starters, the next issue of On Management comes out next week.  It will include audio from my conversation with Randy Brown and Kirk Fernandes, co-founders of Merit, a startup working to support career development and growth for underrepresented people in tech.  Here's a preview.


Randy, Kirk and I share an objective:  we want to help people to decode, and speak, the unspoken structures that contribute to success at work. 

But we have used different approaches, as I learned last year, when I had the pleasure of watching Kirk and Randy from the sidelines as they got Merit up and running.  They seek to increase equity by creating real-life opportunities for people to learn “how to have a job” (and more) from more senior people.

At some point, I may share more on my process around deciding to shutter this project, a decision that took about 9 months to bring to fruition.  With this very note!

Tl;dr:  I loved this project, and feel like I’ve done as much as I can with it, in this medium.
