Inviting Community in Christ
Weekly Announcements for June 21-27
Prepare for Worship on Sunday
God does not promise that the path of the disciple will be easy. Jeremiah feels the pain of rejection from those who do not want to hear what he has to say. Jesus declares that his words may bring stark division. Even so, we need not be afraid for God accounts for each hair on our heads. Though we may experience rejection, frustration, division, and death, God’s grace and love make us a new creation each day. Marked with the cross and filled with holy food, we are sent from worship to witness to Christ in the world.
Readings: Jeremiah 28:5-9 | Romans 6:12-23 | Matthew 10:5a, 21-33
Due to safety concerns, Grace is now offering two worship times: Sunday at 9:30 am and Wednesday at 6:00 pm. Both will use the same readings and sermon. However, Wednesday night will take more safety precautions: e.g., facemasks will be required and there will be no congregational singing. Please note that we will observe social distancing at both services. Therefore, we will continue to invite 25 households per service to allow for our capacity plan.
The Sunday worship service will be live-streamed on our webpage, on Facebook and YouTube. Join us on any of those platforms Sunday at 9:30 am. The Wednesday evening service will not be broadcast.
Also, please know that there will be someone to lend a listening ear at the church, and should you require a quiet space for reflection and private prayer, our door is open. If you’d like to talk with Pastor Eggold or schedule individual (or family communion), contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org or (765) 337-1480.
The congregation is considering a proposal for replacing the one projection screen in the chancel with two LCD screens outside the chancel. We have recorded a brief video detailing the Screen proposal. This video is available at https://www.gracelaf.org/members/screen-propsal. We want to make every effort to keep you informed and answer any questions that you might have about the proposal. As questions or comments arise, feel free to contact Pastor Eggold at email@example.com.
Taking Faith Home Meditations
Each week, we want to send you a list of daily Scripture readings, devotional thoughts, prayers, and things to try at home. It's called Taking Faith Home and you can find this week's sheet here.

In this class, we will examine two essential teachings of the Bible: Law and Gospel. We will explore how the Spirit works through both Law and Gospel to bring people to faith in Jesus Christ and helps us read and apply Scripture to daily life. Join us on Sunday at 11 am and be enriched as the Spirit works through God's word of Law and His proclamation of the Gospel! Use the information above to join the class on Sundays.

Wednesday Women's Bible Class - Grace-Filled Marks of a Disciple
At Pentecost, we celebrated the anniversary of the Church being created. What did the members of the early Church practice? What practices make up the Church today? What discipleship practices in your life do you see? How can we help? We would love it if you come and explore what discipleship looks like! Use the information above to join our class on Wednesday morning.

The Giving Garden has been planted and the first harvest has been delivered to St. James and to the LUM Protein Pantry. We are in need of a few individuals/families interested in helping harvest and deliver. If you are interested in this opportunity to serve those in the Lafayette community who experience food insecurity, contact Cindy Gilles; firstname.lastname@example.org. A schedule will be developed that would fit your availability.
We invite you to continue to support our ministries here at Grace by giving online.
We know not having church on a weekend is hard. But when we started to think about how we would still have church while our building is closed, we started to think about how we could be the Church in this difficult time. Please consider:
- Serving. We are in conversation with our community partners in order to help with distribution of food, donating resources, or serving in other ways. During this time, local food pantries and relief organizations are being heavily used. If you are interested in serving or donating items to the food pantry, it will go a long way to serve our community. If you are interested in helping, please fill out this form to let us know.
- Praying. We are working to provide you with devotions, prayers and scripture to use at home. If you have gotten out of the habit of daily prayer or family devotions, there is no better time to start! We would like to add our encouragement to pray for the health of the whole world, for those who are suffering and dying, for governments and health authorities and medical researchers, doctors and nurses at this time. Here is a great litany that we hope helps you during this time.
- Caring. This is a great time to check in with neighbors to see how you can help each other. If you are interested in helping care for fellow members of Grace, please fill out this form to let us know.
- Giving. Also, we know that many of you may want to continue your giving even if we are not able to meet in-person. Click here to access online giving.
Grace Church Picnic Save-the-Date
We are tentatively planning on having a Grace church picnic on Saturday, July 18 at Prophetstown State Park. We will make a final determination mid-June and publicize it in the announcements if it will be held. So keep your eyes open in this space for more details.
