Attorney Highlight

Troy Ortiz

Where did you go to school/obtain your degree?
For my undergrad, I attended the University of California in Santa Cruz where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature with a minor in Legal Studies. Following my undergrad, I went to the Thomas Jefferson School of Law to obtain my J.D. and graduated magna cum laude.

What is your primary focus(es) in the practice of law?
I work within MOBO’s transactional law department and primarily focus on general business and real estate law.

What has been your most fulfilling or rewarding experience in the practice of law?
Early on in my legal career, I worked as an intern with the San Diego Public Defender’s Office during which time I was able to assist underrepresented defendants, which I found to be a very rewarding experience. I later worked for the United States District Court for Judge Jan Adler as a judicial extern. My time working as a judicial extern provided me with valuable exposure to the inner workings of the judicial system, as well as some insight into how judges assess cases and disputes with which they are presented.

Where are you originally from and which MOBO Law office to you based out of?
I am originally from San Diego and I am based out of our office on Donner Pass Road in downtown Truckee.

Why did you undertake the practice of law?
The analytical and problem-solving aspects of practicing law, as well as the ability to couple those aspects with the using the law to help and empower others, are the reasons I was drawn to the practice of law.
What made you choose MOBO Law?

I chose to be a part of MOBO Law because I was attracted to the diverse practice areas in which MOBO specializes and the overall culture of the firm. I was also drawn to the fact that working with MOBO would allow me the opportunity to live in the Tahoe area and take advantage of the activities/lifestyle that the area has to offer.

What is the best part of your job?
Being that many of my clients consist of small and mid-sized businesses operating in the Tahoe area, the best part of my job is being able to help my clients. It is rewarding to be able to assist business owners, many of whom are local community members, achieve success by minimizing their exposure to risks and ensuring their interests are well-protected so that they are able to focus their time and energy on other aspects of their business in need of their attention.
