Fortnightly Update #3 - 13.06.2016

Welcome to my latest update, which includes a summary of activity over the last two weeks, as well as a look ahead at the events coming up across Cheltenham.

Over The Last Two Weeks, Alex has:

  • Spoken out in the crucial Investigatory Powers Bill debate in Parliament. To watch the exchange with Sir Keir Starmer QC MP click here 
  • Published a hard-hitting report by the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group (Alex is co-chair) calling for greater investment and more ambitious cycling targets . You can read the full report here
  • Organised a tele-conference with senior figures at the health organisation Monitor regarding their ongoing investigation into waiting times at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Called on fuel companies to lower prices as wholesale prices drop, to address fuel poverty amongst the most vulnerable members of our society  the winter months. Read the full exchange here
  • Met with GCC to raise the issue of potholes. Secured an agreement from Amey to fill (within 28 days) the top 50 potholes nominated by local residents to his office. To nominate a pothole, please click here
  • Undertaken a mock ESA Assessment at the local assessment centre to better understand the processess applicants must complete
  • Joined local schoolchildren at the Cheltenham Science Festival, for Major Tim Peake's final press conference from the International Space Station
  • Taken part in the annual Gloucestershire Pride parade in its 11th year and addressed the crowd
  • Met Bath Road traders, along with local councillor Tim Harman, to discuss proposals to improve the Bath Road car park
  • Led a Parliamentary bike ride of dozens on Parliamentarians and the Dutch Ambassador from the Dutch Embassy to Parliament
  • Supported local cadets Gloucestershire ACF ('The Rifles') at the 30th annual House of Commons vs House of Lords tug of war in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support, which raised over £113,000 
  • Met with the local Clinical Commissioning Group and Tewkesbury MP, Laurence Robertson, to discuss GP services provision in Oakley
  • Supported the Suffolks' Summer Fair
  • Joined key local employer, Messier Dowty, for the 'Messian and Maths' event at the Parabola Arts Centre as part of the Cheltenham Science Festival
  • Held a local community surgery at Waitrose for residents in St Peter's ward. More to follow in locations across the town
  • Supported the (excellent) Wychwood Festival at the Racecourse with his family
  • Completed the 'Walk a Mile in my shoes' fundraiser in Pitville Park for Carers Gloucestershire. Joined 'Eddie the Eagle' too!
  • Supported local pupils by visiting Berkhampstead School's art exhibition
  • Attended the reopening of the King's Arms pub on Gloucester Road to support the new owners
  • Met residents at the Windsor Street Care Centre, including a former employee at Bletchley Park, to discuss the upcoming EU referendum
