A great big massive thanks to all of you who marched with us in support of the NHS - it was great to meet so many of you!

A massive thank you to all of you who supported us on Saturday 4 March by marching with us, helping on our stall and ferrying campaign materials between Euston and Tavistock Square. We couldn't have done it without you. And it was a huge pleasure to meet so many of you fantastic supporters who follow us on Facebook or read our newsletters and join our campaigns. Many of you who were not able to get to London for the march organised demonstrations locally - we'd love to see any pictures you took and hear how your day went. And not to forget the many supporters and members who contacted us to say that although they couldn't make it to the march, they would be with us in spirit on the day.

We were really proud of our Dr Louise Irvine who was on the organising committee of the march and compered the speeches on stage.

We gave out hundreds of our campaign leaflets and many of our supporters carried our campaign placards. If you would like some leaflets or posters to give out locally please email us at with your name and address.

Campaign updates

  • FOI research project update: Thank you for the amazing response to our Freedom of Information campaign for requests to your local Trusts about NHS and private beds. We expected to see a growth in private beds and a drop in NHS ones. But many Trusts responded saying they had no private beds - or they specified that they use NHS beds for private patients. We are currently looking at the comparisons with the accounts showing private patient income against the information you have supplied. We will have follow up questions, but we would ask you to be patient while we do the necessary work beforehand - we want to create a standardised data set if possible, and for that we need a standardised set of questions. Don't worry if you have already done a follow up, but if not please do wait.
  • Lords Committee campaign: We were delighted that campaign groups We Own It and 999 Call for the NHS decided to join in our call for pressure to be put on the Lords Committee to urgently consider a return to full public service as the best way to provide comprehensive, universal and accessible care with public funding. We think that in total well over 3,000 letters were sent, many of them written personally rather than using the template. We will be writing more on the Lords Committee before the end of the month when their report is due to be published.
  • Simon Stevens Postcard campaign. We think it is about time we wrote to Simon Stevens, CEO of NHS England (ex-Blair advisor, ex-president of global operations at United Health of America). We'll be launching this campaign shortly.
  • Meanwhile our two councillors, Cllr Harry Hayfield and Cllr Mark Jarnell are standing for the next level of local representation in their respective areas. We will send you a campaign update on our Local Election candidates soon.

Best wishes
Jessica and Deborah
