Dear Supporter

Last Saturday NHA volunteers got a warm welcome in Witney as they campaigned for Dr Helen Salisbury (second from left in photo) in the by-election. The sun surprised us all by shining when rain was forecast and the shoppers, out and about on the busy market day, were happy to take leaflets and talk to us. Some said they were very pleased to see us back again. There's a lot of anger and anxiety in Witney, as there is all across the country, as services are cut and closed. Not just the NHS (though that's the one that worries people most) but to children's services, libraries, fire stations and more. It's enough to make people have a second thought about where they might place their vote. And in a by-election they just might decide to give the government a shock - even in traditionally Conservative Witney. On our first day we were bowled over by a Witney resident who wanted a banner to display. You can see it at the bottom of this newsletter.

Will you help us to maximise our chances?

We do need funds as we would like to hire the campaign 'ambulance' (it's a theatre prop, not real) and to take ads in the local paper to increase awareness of Helen's bid to become Witney's MP, as well as all the leaflets we have already printed. People won't vote for her if if they don't know who she is. Your donation can make all the difference. We run the party on a shoe-string and use almost all of what we receive in donations to fund our campaigns, so need extra at times like these to make sure we can do our best. Just £1 from everyone who receives this email will be enough, but if you can spare more, please do donate more!

We find that a lot of people prefer to make a direct payment to our account:
National Health Action Party, Co-operative Bank, Sort Code 08 92 99  Account no.65581771

But if you are fine with PayPal then please use www.nhap.org/donate/

Cheques may be sent to Allison Livingstone, our NHA Membership Administrator, PO Box 152, LISKEARD, PL14 9DF.

Feet on the ground are as important as funds!

Helen will be campaigning on the days listed below and would be delighted if you would join her. It is estimated that a team of around 100 is needed to run a successful election campaign. Will you be one of our Witney One Hundred? If you are confident talking to people then you can help run a stall, talk to people on the streets or knock on doors. If you would rather play a less public facing role then there is much letterbox leafleting to do!

This weekend 8 & 9 October
Saturday 8th - Helen and her team will be in Chipping Norton.

Sunday 9th - we're meeting at 11am in Hackett's Coffee Shop, Wesley Walk, Witney, OX28 6HG, which is just behind the Methodist church off Witney High Street. Helen will be joined by Dr Paul Hobday, the NHA party leader and Dr Louise Irvine, who stood against Jeremy Hunt at the general election and is well known as the Chair of the Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign.

Email contact@nhap.org if you can join us on either of these days.

Weekdays beginning 10 October
Can you join Helen on Tuesday 11th, Thursday 13th or Friday 14th?

On Thursday 13th at 7.30pm Helen will be taking part in the hustings at the Memorial Hall, Brown's Lane, Charlbury. If you live in the Witney constituency please go and support her.

Email contact@nhap.org if you can.

Weekend 15 & 16 October
We want to cover as much of the constituency as possible, but Witney itself has the largest number of voters. We will be back at Hackett's Coffee shop in Witney at 11am on Saturday 15th and will then review our coverage of the rest of the constituency to decide where best to target our efforts on Sunday 16th.

Email contact@nhap.org if you can join us on either of these days.

The final countdown 18 - 20 October
Can we get sufficient volunteers to cover multiple areas of the constituency in these last few days? That is in your hands. We hope very much that you will see this as a very important part of the campaign against the STPs and the dismantling of the NHS. When Dr Richard Taylor, the co-founder of the party, was elected to parliament as an independent health candidate he said he was shocked at the general lack of knowledge amongst MPs on the subject of health - surely one of their most important functions. Dr Helen Salisbury knows what she is talking about and she will use her position, if elected, to tell the truth about what is happening as well as to fight for her constituents.

Email contact@nhap.org if you can join us on either of these days.

We need your help. Will you be there for Helen so she can fight for the NHS in parliament?

We hope so. Please be there at Hackett's coffee shop this Sunday 9th and the following Saturday 15th, email us at contact@nhap.org to let us know you are coming along.

And an advance notice, as our small team is very busy with the by-election, on top of the day-to-day running of the party, the party AGM & Conference will be held this year in London on the 5th November.

Full details to follow.
